I picked up this Peugeot today - I think it may be a PX50...

Can someone confirm and fill me in on an approximate value and year of manufacture? *
It has a fully lugged Carbolite 103 frame, Stainless Fenders, Simplex DRs and Weinman Brakes, and serrated steel wheels.
(Except for the decrepit old tires) it's in very nice condition, and will be easy to clean up. The generator and lights still work too.

(* I am relatively sure it's pre '84, since the seller said he bought it in West Germany in '83.)

It also has an unusual die cast head badge. (See below)
Thanks much.

Pretty bike. I don't think a carbolite frame would have the PX designation though. Miamijim or sixtyfiver can tell what you've got (as could a few others). As you've specifically asked about value, I'm going to move this to the Appraisal sub-forum.

I would justify your 83-84 assumption but would guess it to be a PH-8 or thereabouts based on the stem shifters and cottered cranks.
As far as value goes, it would help if we new your location, as markets are grossly inflated in many parts. All the same I would put a bottom line value at around $100-150 since it has the original fenders and lights.

Thanks PDXaero - I didn't over-pay for this one! I am in the Detroit metro area, so nothing here is overpriced. (The median price of a home sold in Detroit last December was $7,500, according to Realcomp, a listing service. Not seventy five thousand, seventy five hundred.) So I guess that makes my hundred dollar bike like a Cadillac!!

PS- I think I made out even better on a PSV10-N Super Vitus I purchased today for $100 - I have not one wit what that is worth either, but will pose the question here once I get it cleaned up and photographed. . . I am going to have to sell one, or possibly both of them.

I think thats a pretty good guess, the fenders and lights definitely make it more attractive. I would guess you could get 150.00 if it is ride ready.

Pretty bike. I don't think a carbolite frame would have the PX designation though.

Surprisingly they do. On occasion you'll see UO8's with 'inoxydable' decals which would give the bike a 'PX8' designation.

This particular model is a PH8M according to the '82 French catalog NOT a PX50 and its NOT an 'X' model although its very similar. A version of this bike was made as an 'X' model but it had alloy wheels, cranks and pedals.

Dollar wise i'll go higher.....$200-225 depending on location.

I'll need a serial number to confirm the year. Does it still have the paper sticker?

Hi Miami Jim - I was just inspecting and found a sticker on the bottom Brkt shell - it's a UE8M - so you guys are (of course) right: Not an "x" model (It looked like the catalog photo of the "x" model though).

Its s/n is 2895633 - does that define the year of manufacture?

Thanks mkeller234 - I'll probably start higher and go down if I sell.
Frankly I'm a bit enamored with it, even though it has got to be my heaviest bike after my Schwinn.

My Peugeot lore is still pretty weak but was going to guess UE8... I built up an older UE8 for my nephew and he just loves it.

I would think that if it was in nice tuned up condition it could fetch $200.00 - $250.00... old Pugs have their fans and that is a very nicely equipped bike that could handle anything from commuting to light touring.

Lose the steel wheels and replace what looks like Simplex parts with Suntour and you will really have a nice bike that could fetch even more.

I'll need the serail number stamped into the metal...not the one on the paper sticker.

The only number stamped on the bottom bracket shell is "124" just three digits. No other marking faint nor otherwise. Doesn't seem right.
