I am curently using a DIY stem setup for two older (70`s) detatchable bikes. I am strggeling to find good clamps.

I cut down steerer tubes and put new 1" forks.Approx 1 1/2" (or slightly more) of the threaded steerer tube is visable after headset is installed. There is a slot in this visable part and the top of an old fashioned seatpost is inserted (held in place with looong threaded rod, star nut and top cap).

For this I need good clamps, something like a seat post clamp.
I need one with a innside diameter same as the outside diameter of the 1" fork tube. Best is one with a quick release, but not vital.

It's hard to say without some pictures :-)

You could try 'U' bolts - exhaust (do you call them "mufflers"?) clamp type bolts. Probably not really very aesthetic, but if you're just experimenting, would give you an idea if it's worth pursuing.

Why not just use hose-clamps?

Try bike shops that specialize in BMX... I think old-school BMX frames had 1" seat tubes, and some might still have those seat clamps in stock.

If that's a dead end, try for the smallest MTB clamp you can find, and maybe you could fashion a reducing-collar out of curling aluminum sheet metal... or a slightly bigger tube.

Here we go... 1" clamps:

If you're in the UK:
http://www.customriders.com/prodlist.asp?a=cat&parent=1001&cat=39&sort=3&pg=1

If you're in the US:
https://www.jrbicycles.com/storefront/index.php?act=viewCat&catId=109

Most of those clamps are available in 1", 1-1/8", 1-1/4"
a few have QR bolts

Thank you all. Did not know that old BMX could have as small as 1" seattubes.

The bikes is detatchable more than folders and we are going to use them in just a few days riding in the mountains on a 3 day tour. Need to be able to detatch and get them back together without a lot of tools and still get a bomb proof steering.

Used the old clamps that came with the bikes so far but they do not work well since the old fork had a slightly smaller tube.
