I was running on the MUP and passed this point about 15 minutes before this happened.

Damned motorcyclists are CONSTANTLY speeding down the Wantagh at well in excess of 100 mph. This is the second case I know of in which a motorcycle cut down a bicyclist on that path.
I, too, was there on Monday night, but I believe I arrived back at Cedar Creek by about 7:45. Minutes earlier, I had shaken my head in frustration as a motorcyclist shot down the left lane of the parkway at twice the speed (or more) of the fastest-moving automobile. Perhaps more police should be assigned to watch the parkway, rather than scold bicyclists who ride through the theater parking lot?
I forget...isn't there a guardrail along the highway separating it from the path? I want to say yes, but can't say for sure.
Edit, Google answered my question for me. The answer appears to be no.
I can't imagine why not. If there are any thoughts of closing the path, they should look to installing guardrails instead.

A horrible tragedy. There are often many families riding bikes, runners, walkers and inline skaters on that path. :(
