I have what I believe to be a 1971 Fuji Absolute based on the serial number F71XXXX. I really like the frame but the components were all original and used often. I am thinking of fully updating with modern components because I like the feel of this frame so much.
The frame is silver with light blue "fuji" and "absolute" stickers. There is a 4130 CroMolly sticker on the seat tube. I will have to spread the rear fork slightly to accommodate a modern wheel set.
Is this a good candidate for such a project? I can post pictures of the frame later.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve, can you confirm that serial number? Fuji didn't produce an Absolute till 1986. Are you familiar with the Classic Fuji website?

You should be able to find your bike in their catalog archive.

Scott,
Thanks for the info, I believe it is the silver Absolute SE from 1988. I interpreted the SN based on a different post.
If it is indeed the '88 Absolute SE with 4130 CroMo frame, would it be a good frame to update with modern components. The bike sure feels nice to ride and I can only imagine what it could be like updated.
Thanks

If it's a frame that you like and feel that you'll spend a lot of time on than by all means do whatever you can do to make it a more enjoyable ride. I tend to leave my Fuji's as is and have never felt the need to upgrade to a more modern component selection but that's just me.
