Introductions - Up and at 'em in Alpe d'Huez!

I'm from Alpe d'Huez, and have lived here for 8 years, whilst I'm not a hardcore cyclist as most of you are I have the uptmost respect for all of you that go past my window!! I am a new Mum and with time on my hands I thought I may be able to offer advice for those planning a trip here (at any time - not just for the TT). I know the area pretty well and know a fair few people, I might be able to help find solutions for your transport and accommodation problems.

Just to let you know, most of us are Americans, and the most sophisticated of us think Alpe d'Huez means Mountains of Eggs. Please give a more full description of where you live and cycle. Thanks.

Khuon - You response leaves me thinking that you didn't actually read what I had to say. I have posted on other cycling forums and so far anwsered hundreds of questions about where to watch, where to eat, what the road block situation is - all good free advice. I am most certainly not a travel agent just someone with time on their hands who might have ideas with regards to accommodation. Capitalising on the TDF I think is very unfair, but there are a great many people without a place to sleep and a great many appartments that sit doing nothing, until I propose to them that they could rent for just the 2 days of the Tour as most agencies are not prepared to do that.

Incidently the Huez place of Alpe d'Huez is the name of the village half way down the hill 'd' means from so it means the 'peak/summit of Huez'. And I live between bends 2 and 1 (at the top). So anyone with further questions lijke that - fire away if you would like me to justify myself. Anyone would like a little advice plase feel free.

It has to be said its going to be pretty crowded at ours!! And you know I enjoy being here everyday - its a fabulous place and way to live!!

Okay. I stand/type/sit corrected and I sincerely apologise for the presumption. It's just that your initial post read a bit "commercial" because it used a lot of the same "tone" and structure of much of the spam messages I receive on a daily basis. I guess my message scanning heuristics need refining. :) Sorry for the over-reaction and thank you for being a source of such helpful advice.

Thank you for posting to the Forums. Please, PLEASE, P-L-E-A-S-E post pictures of l'Alpe d'Huez if you can. I understand it is very busy to be a new Mum. I become a stay-at-home dad back in January. Reading your post made me immediately smile :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: !

I was a student at Montpellier III/Faculté des Lettres (Université Paul Valéry) way back in 1982-1983. I really enjoyed getting on my Libéria (made in Grenoble, France) triplecrank semi-touring bike and riding through the countryside, past the vineyards, into the Cévennes, or maybe down to the Méditerranée, about 17 kms away.

I've seen pictures of l'Alpe d'Huez in magazines but it would be great to hear from an insider. Even if it is only just an occasional narrative, you will have an audience.
