Mountain Biking - Cannondale 4 bolt disc brakes

A friend of mine has a Cannondale F700 with a front disc brake and a rear V. He wishes to switch to a rear disc as well, but his wheels have 4 holes instead of the normal 6. From what I see this appears to be another proprietary Cannondale thing. The LBS quoted him $205 for a back brake which seems pretty high and he doesn't want to spend that much. Do any other companies sell discs that work with these wheels? He doesn't care too much if they are mechanical or hydraulic.

The 4 bolt rotors are going on ebay for $9.99, but they are 171mm. Will these rotors work with other disc brakes like Avid mechs?

I have a similar problem. I have a 1999 Cannondale F2000 with CODA Hydraulic disc brakes, 4 bolt pattern. I need new wheels, but my LBS said no wheels would be compatible with these brakes. They offered to hand build me wheels from left over parts they had around (i guess those extra CODA hubs and Mavic 223s never sold well) for like $300. I am reluctant to put this much money into "new" wheels from old parts, just so they can work with CODA brakes that aren't that good to begin with.

Should i just get a new set of brakes and 6 bolt wheels from nashbar?

Wouldnt getting a new hub work? And you could ditch the proprietary Crack n' Fail ****...

I highly doubt it.....Id ditch the Coda stuff, most of it is crap. You could find a Avid 160mm brake and rotor for like $60 or $70, and a new hub for like $20.

I had mine built by a renoun local downhiller, ryno lite rims (35 each), DT swiss hubs (60fr, 130r) and 60 for labor, I do XC/urban on them and the KICK A$$. I can even run down small children.

I don't know if Hayes still makes 4 bolt rotors in 6" diameter, but I bolted those to my Coda hubs when I swapped out the Coda brakes for Hayes. It's a simple option if he can find one of those rotors...until he decides to spend the money on different hubs.
