Professional Cycling For the Fans - Bye old Lance, hello Lance of old - Accelerating on the climbs..

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

He is finding his legs, and he is starting to have that acceleration - did you see him bridge that gap. You could see he wanted to attack...too bad Bruyneel caged the animal once again :(
you need to post less, and pay more attention.
This thread is almost as ridiculous as the threads calling Lance a has been for getting dropped in Stage 15. Dropped one stage, dropped but caught up the next. By the end of tomorrow we will probably know better, but its too early to tell just yet.

Why, haven't you watched today's stage??

Not today....they have been testing him every 3 days since the 11th. He was tested the 11th, 14th, 17th, and 20th. So it looks like he'll be tested on the TT day the 23rd. I bet they pull a 6am wake up call.

I'm with you. It was great to see a bit more umphhh.
Lance is a support rider for Contador. Bruyneel "caged" a lot of good riders to supply support for Lance over the years, now its his turn.

I would agree. Lance made a great acceleration to catch up. But that's what he was doing, catching up after being dropped. Tomorrow will tell how his legs respond to a brutal day like today. Lance did finally show a glimpse of the old Lance today. It was nice to see.
One for the fanboys. No I don't think this will happen, but there is always a chance.
Lance gains 20 seconds on AC in the ITT, and survives tomorrow. Stage 20 Saxo attacks Lance can't match acceleration. Alberto fends off attacks from Andy. Lance gets it going and has JB to tell AC not to worry he is on the way. Andy and Alberto on on the edge. Lance catches up sits on for a second, then launches an attack. AC & AS are gassed and can't follow.

Orion, where have you been!?
He was not dropped in my opinion. If he had it in his legs to make up 35 seconds over 2K's and drop other riders at the same time, then he was just playing the team game. Did you see Contador start looking around when JB announced that Armstrong was bridging?
If you are cooked and can't respond to an acceleration, yet you can shortly thereafter chase them down, then I don't buy the argument that he was dropped.
Julian Julian Lance is strong, but he cannot match the pace. That's what got him Sunday. If he pulls the sitting in team tactic tomorrow say bye bye podium. Contador is itching, and if Saxo attacks, and can't put AC on the edge I am willing to bet he will counter. The pace will be insane, and no hope of bridging the gap.

Richard, Richard, Richard, Richard.
Didn't you pour over my grassy knoll theory with a fine tooth comb?
He not only bridged the gap with an amazing effort, but he dropped some pretty good climbers doing so. I am sure Contador was shocked when the old man pulled up next to him.
He was playing possum on Stage 15, to take any pressure off himself and to give Contador a false sense of security.
Alright now I thinks you are trolling. If not you will like my post further up the page. Enjoy!

He and Kloden were riding by themselves and Kloden rode away. There was no reason for Lance not to go with because he wouldn't be towing anyone to AC. He just didn't have it that day. Team orders just mean that you don't tow anyone up to your team leader, in a situation like that, you can go as fast as you want.
I was impressed today. Maybe the AC group had slowed, but Lance looked great.

Nonsense. There is absolutely NO reason for him to let himself be dropped by a group that included A. Schleck and Wiggins. The guys who did it were immediately behind him in the standings. The pace at the start of the climb was brutal. Lance did the smart think and stayed within himself and rode his pace. Then he attacked when he was able. LA did a great job getting back to the group and preserving his position in the GC. But he did initially get dropped. Ain't no rationalizing that.
It will be interesting to see how Lance's legs are tomorrow. Its looking like Saxo Bank and the Schleck boys are determined to make everyone experience some time in the hurt locker before this one is over. They're not showing any signs of giving up the attacks.

Exactly. He went back to see how Sastre was looking, like seeing if he might be up to anything they needed to know about. When he saw there wasn't anything in that group to worry about, he popped on back up to fill in the other guys.

Well I would have to beg to differ Sir. You see, there was an advantage for Lance to let A. Schleck and Wiggins go.
By letting Contador, Schleck, and Wiggins duke it out and go out on their own, Lance was in control of the group behind him, which included big names like Sastre, Evans, and Vendevelde if I'm not mistaken. So by hanging back, and controlling the tempo for the other gc contenders, and allowing a gap to stretch between Lance's group and Contador's...........and then attacking and closing the gap without anyone else following him, Lance, Contador, and Kloden were able to increase their time over some of their main competitors, namely Sastre, Evans, and Vendevelde.
All I can say is this was probably all orchestrated by Astana. They knew Saxo would attack, and they used this as an advantage to gain time on their other competitors, by letting Lance hang back, to destroy the remnants of the other gc contenders in the peloton. Check Mate for Bruyneel. Now all they really need to worry about is Bradley Wiggins really, because Schleck can't Time Trial very well.

Clearly and utterly incorrect. See those guys eventually did make it back to the the yellow group very shortly after Lance did. Did you listen to Lance's interview after the stage? He said himself that the attack caught him by surprise and he doesn't have the legs to go with the younger guys anymore. So he rode his race and bridged the gap when the elevation was suitable to him.
Anyways, enough of your nonsense.

LA said it best - he's unable to accelerate like he used to. Twice we've seen this. That said, I was very surprised by his recovery. He's an impressive dude.
I'd love to be proven wrong, but barring a crash or an epic, Landis/Stage 16 style bonk, I can't see how Lance would (or could) put time on AC.

Sorry, wrong again Sir, wrong again. Evans is 7 minutes back....and Tony Martin is 18 minutes back...and he is a pretty young dude Sir. You just don't get it, Lance is a mastermind of this game we call the TDF, which is why he won it seven times. He knows how to play the media, and everyone else in the tour.

Because they think riding around in circles in a Cat 5 race for 45 minutes is an actual bike race and they think they have knowledge.

Look at the overall standings, and then look in the mirror when you ask those questions...
Did you listen to Lance's interview after the stage?
I did. My question is should you really believe anything that come's out of a professional athlete or manager's mouth during the heat of competition? LA and JB are like the Belichicks of cyclying...never a straight answer (and wisely so).
I'm a huge LA supporter but have no illusions of him winning short of AC falling and maybe not even being on the podium. That being said he brings the supporters, viewers and $ to the sport so I don't get where all the haters pile on. VS only survives to broadcast because LA brought an audience for the advertisers. We as Americans should revel in any cyclist that allows us to view live Tours because it may not last much longer.

Wow he did it again, and left Wiggins in the dust. I think it's also evident that Lance is stronger than Kloden at this point.
You are right, but today was especially nice. A stealthy 2 plus minute loss. None of the other guys seem concerned. Lance loves when a plan comes together.

I know, nice of Lance to help Contador increase his gap between Wiggins before the time trial. What a guy :).

If you're talking about Lance dropping Kloden, you have to see who the 3rd guy was. Nibali is 2 positions behind Lance in the GC. He can't let him go just to be a nice guy to a teammate and give up time to someone who could pass him in the GC. That would make no sense at all.
Contador dropping Kloden was a much bigger faux pas. He should have just sat in all the way to the line, but he's not that smart.
