Nearly got that Cycle Specialist job in Halfords, but asked for too much money, the manager told me he could afford to pay me, more than he really could afford. The pay they offered wouldn't cover my costs with regards travelling and childcare. So unless they come up with something better tomorrow - judgement day - I'll stick where I am now.

Sorry to hear of your disappointment. Maybe they'll reconsider. Anyway, I hope things will work in your favor.

Sorry to hear that. I know you were excited about that job. Sometimes when things like that happen, something even better comes along. I wish you luck! :)

Well, I guess if you have to be disappointed, it's better to get disappointed while you're in a job you like, than to add disappointment to a job you detest! So at least that's in your favor. Sorry it didn't work out, though.

Yep, that's it!

They offered me to low a wage to make it worth my while. Today I officially declined the offer.

Were you eligible for any of this "family credit" stuff which out Tony introduced to get people into underpaid jobbs?

It wasn't so much the pure cost of childcare, but the transport of my daughter backwards and forwards to the nursery and picking her up. I currently work less than half a mile from the nursery she'll be attending so I can use my breaks to pick her up etc...

Judging from the level of knowledge in Chatham's BikeHut at the weekend, Halfords need some people with knowledge - it was definitely a case of trying to shift what they had in stock, rather than suit the customers needs.
