Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I have the mentioned bike and just recently I had the 15 year old tire and tube replaced at a bike repair shop. The person behind the counter tells me that the tire has seen better times and yes after 15 years it has seen better times. They did not take interac so I had to leave the rear wheel with them while I went to get the funds to pay for the repair. Upon receiving my tire it appeared that my $600 bike may have had a $10 sprocket replaced. If anyone out there has one of these bikes and can send me a picture of the original sprocket I would greatly appreciate it. Can a sprocket be changed in a matter of minutes or am I just paranoid?

With the proper tools, which the lbs has of course, the sprocket could be changed in 2-3 minutes. Of more concern, did they let you know it needed to be replaced, were you asked if you wanted it done, and if not, were you charged for it.

Was it the rear tire that was replaced ? if so, the sprocket probably just got some accidental cleaning as the wheel was removed and the work carried out. It is not easy to be certain from the picture, but I would think it unlikely that the shop would replace one single sprocket, especially on a simple puncture repair job.
I would not loose any sleep over this :)

I like the rusty chain. They may have snugged down your freewheel, and not wanting to get gunk on their tools, wiped down the cog. Your bike looks like it could use a good scrubbing. All that greasy gunk will eventually impede proper operation of the moving parts.
