Texas - DFW - Make-A-Wish metric century (Oct 3)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Along with the century, there will also be 10, 30 and 45-mile routes.

Our three children are Wish Kids and we've had great experiences with this organization.

Cool ride. Do you have to do fundraising to ride? Cannot find if you do on the site.

This page indicates one has to raise funds by soliciting donations:

The fund raising is only required to be eligible for the prizes. You can simply pay the entry fee and ride.

We did a small section of the ride, last night and it was awesome. I always forget how smooth the streets are up in Plano.

Thanks for the info. I just signed up, and e-mailed friends and family to donate. We'll see what happens. I set my donation goal at $500.

Less than two weeks away. Yesterday, we put out ride notices along the route on the west side of 75.

My daughter has been chosen as the Wish Kid spokesperson for the ride! She'll be on Good Morning Texas this Wednesday. Channel 8, 9:00am to 10:00am. I don't know if she'll be on in the first half hour or the second, but I'm hoping they will put the video on line after the show. If they do, I'll post a link here.

Is there a way to get a more detailed map? Not that it really matters, just curious where the route will take me.

These are the routes as they were initially laid out. There might have been a few tweaks, here and there but this will give you a good idea of where we'll be going.

What a great turnout!
When planning started on this, we were expecting to get around 600 riders, being the first year for this ride. The hope was to grow it to 1000 riders, next year.
As of Friday night, there were 1100 registered riders and the expectation was to see at least a few hundred show up this morning and register!
I haven't got the final numbers yet, but a big THANK YOU to all who came out!

We are still going to have a wrap up meeting about what we can do better next year. Anyone who was a part of it has any suggestions, let me know and I'll pass it along.

Thanks again.

The only suggestion I have is maybe have signs as well as paint on the road marking the turns. I saw in a few case some riders missed turns. Other than that, I thought everything was great.

A couple of suggestions:

1: Better route marking. There were a number of spots on the course (I rode the 100k) where turns were marked after the turn, but not before, and we had a few people at the front of the group miss the turns.

2: Better amplification for the opening remarks. I arrived later than I would have liked, and was forced to queue up for the ride back by the 10 mile start point. Back there we couldn't hear anything that was being said over the PA.

Other than that nothing really sticks out in my mind as needing improvement, the route marking is really the big thing. Well that and the Windhaven hill making me work at the end of the ride, but that's all a part of the fun...
