Looking for your .02 on Hydration Packs
I run with a MULE now and that is fine.
However I will be doing some longer rides this year & want to be prepared a little more. I have it down to 3.
Anyone using the following? Likes or dislike on them?
CamelBak Havoc Hydration Pack - 100 oz.
CamelBak H.A.W.G. NV Hydration Pack - 100 oz.
CamelBak Mule NV Hydration Pack - 100 oz.

You don't need all that crap. Octane XC is all you need. Live on the edge.
1st off, 70 oz will not cut it. Where is Location: The 828?
I am in Texas. it is over 100 and I will be doing 12 to 25 miles. Ever get caught 10 miles from the car broken down?
I need to be prepared

You need a pack that big to do 12 to 25 miles??????? You're carrying too much stuff,I don't care how hot it is.
I have never been caught 10 miles from the car broken down, I'm afraid to get any more that about 2 miles from the car. The bike path is a gnarly loop.

OP-
I checked out your link- you'll be out in the boonies and, if you're going now, it's gonna be unbelieveably hot. Start at the absolute crack of dawn. You may even want to bring more water than a mere 100 oz..

Those trails look great! I'll be heading down there with all my yuppie friends from Boston, thanks for the 411. Keep an eye out for us at the trail heads. Look for all the hot SUV's with Mass plates in the parking lots. Hang ten.

Ive been there , went last year . Stayed at ash grove and rode Tsali and Black mountain. Not a bad place to ride had a great time out there. If i remeber right Tsali was the bigger of the two rides at about 18 or 19 total miles.

I have the 100oz MULE version and love it. Room for food, tools, a rain jacket, and I could probably cram some other stuff in there too if I tried.

You didn't get on the good stuff. Tsali is a really small area and the riding is not that good.

Now you're just being silly. I heartily recommend you skip the Camelbak and go for the blender option. Tasty margaritas, anyone?

Now how would that help a fellow that was 10 mile away from the car and only carrying 4 tubes,a hack saw, multi tool, velvet tux, roller skates, and a bag full of dog treats.

I need to be preparedAhhhh . . . I think this might fill the bill. 150 gallons; solar-powered pump (great for the wide-open Texas spaces and all that sunshine); all-terrain tires; built-in toolbox; food-grade, rotationally-molded water reservoir; 2" hitch ball (a real MAN'S hitch - - none of that foo-foo, wussy, pull-it-with-your moped inch-and-seven-eighths nonsense); AND . . . get this . . . A SPARE TIRE! No getting caught ten miles from the car with a flat with this baby!*

Ok, back on subject. Do you have any water bottle mounts on your current ride? I'll run a 70oz C'bak and one or two large water bottles for longer 3+ hour summer rides. When I was in Korea I stuffed two 70oz baldders in my C'bak Cloud Walker and a water bottle for those all day epic rides.

Good point. A camelback full of water and a couple of bottles with poweraid(or whatever you choose) would be spot on.
I wonder what the OP decided to get?

Don't be so thinned skinned. If you would get a little tougher you might ba able to ride without getting hurt.

My vote is for the Osprey Talon 22. It's comparable in capacity to the HAWG, but much lighter. I've used the MULE before and I hated it. Two 29er tubes damn near filled the main pocket, forcing me to have to stuff everything else. The Talon swallows two tubes with no problem. Most people would say that much space is overkill, but really it's not. The shoulder/hip straps have an amazing amount of flex, and the whole thing is ridiculously light compared to the MULE and the HAWG... so on most rides when you aren't filling it up, you don't feel like you have too much bag on your back. Every little detail about it seems to be well-thought out. And if you ever want to get into overnighters/bike packing, it's the perfect pack for that. It runs about $100 without a bladder.

The only way I could ride without getting hurt would be to ride at your pace!
The only way I could ride without getting hurt would be to ride at your pace!Ooooooooooo.
Y'know, if he converted that walker over to a 29er, he'd be able to roll over them sidewalk seams and curbs faster. Or even better - - he could supercharge the Rascal with a lithium ion pack:

Yeah, but at my age I can get hurt going that slow.
Might be time to put the training wheels back on!
