Well, today was the big unveiling of my parent's gift - the Univega Sport Tandem that I fixed up and split with my brother and sister as a gift to celebrate their 25th anniversary. My dad saw it first and couldn't believe it. My mom's reaction was a bit... more curt. They both love it. Surprisingly, they took to it better than my brother and I and didn't stumble at all.

My mom loves it because she has MS and that has affected her vision and balance quite a bit. She still does very well and her only major problem is fatigue but she told me today that the vision and balance are the major reason she doesn't like to ride her bike. My dad loved it because its another activity that keeps them active and together (their latest bonding activities have been flipping houses which is quite physical but this is less stressful).

I swear nothing was planned with both of them wearing red on their shiny new red bike. It just worked out that way. My mom was thrilled and my dad was excited. To get it home they were SUPPOSED to use the trailer that they brought mulch in, but they are in the process of closing on their next flip and it needs a kitchen so they loaded it up with cabinets from Habitat's Restore. So we took the seats and front wheel off and stuffed it into the van.

To my surprise, they both sound like they will be riding it. My mom asked if we had a spare bike computer for them so they can monitor how far they ride and how fast. I didn't have a spare ready to go but the schwinn bike computer I have on my road bike doesn't see much use and there's a PB Protege 9.0 floating around somewhere that they could have (one on the front, one on the back so they both get a read out).

Hopefully I'll be able to report back how their riding goes :)

I'm smiling from ear to ear, for them, you and your family.

You have given them a bit of freedom that they will cherish forever. Well done.

That is super cool!! You guys gave them way more than a Tandem. If they keep riding as it appears they will, then future gifts for them could be a couple of helmets. Obviously, your parents raised some great kids. Nice work!

Great gift and photo!
We are in our mid-70s and have been riding 'in tandem' for over 34 years. Got our first tandem for our 20th wedding anniversary . . . way back in 1975.
Been riding TWOgether ever since!
