I'll be staying with a friend in the U.P. in the next month or so and am bringing my bike along. Of course he doesn't ride so he's not too helpful in answering my questions. I'll be staying near Paradise. I was thinking of riding to Whitefish Point, Sault Ste. Marie, and Grand Marais / Pictured Rocks (not all in one day).

-Any suggestions of other places to check out?

-How are the road conditions? I have 700x23's on the bike right now. I can take a few miles of gravel roads but pavement is much better.

-Route suggestions? - I'd like to ride along the lake as much as possible. How safe are these roads?

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

I'm sure a local will tell you much more, but I don't think you'll have any problems riding the roads up there. Gravel? Yeah, if you venture onto logging roads, but the road riding should be great.
