General Cycling Discussion - Buyer's Remorse?

I have a 2002 Fuji Newest road bike. I thought it would be good to try something with a little more comfortable ride and something that would be nice commuter bike. Yesterday, I purchased a 2009 Trek 7.3 FX. I road it for about 10 miles and like the way it rides, but have been thinking I could have saved some money by modifying my road bike to be more comfortable? My original thought was: use the Trek for everyday use and the Fuji for longer training rides. Did I spend money when I could have saved some?

You could have always saved money by not buying something and making do / compromising.

But what would you do with the money you save? If you already have decent savings habits, then it's not unreasonable to live a little - you likely will find a good way to "specialize" each bike to a more specific purpose.

Me, I have 5 bikes and the only thing keeping me from getting another is that my wife has dictated a "one in - one out" policy.....

If you bought the 7.3 under the Trek sale ($499) that's a smoking deal. Ride it and enjoy it, that's the cheapest you'll buy it unless you find one used.

Yeah, and replacing handlebars and related parts on a road bike can run you closer to that $500.00 figure than you'd imagine.

Yep, got 2 at that price. One for the wife and one for me. We thought they would be great for taking camping too. Once we set up camp, we can ride to the nearest town and explore.

I did not realize upgrading handlebars, etc. would cost $500 or more. :eek: I feel much better now!

It is a good idea to have two different styles of bike. Some of us are into multiple bikes and 3 MTB's- a Tandem and 4 road bikes are in my stable- but several others aswell.

But each one is different and used on different types of ride.

Only one I regret buying and that does not get riddden much but even the bikes I use more than the others (Two of the road bikes) did take a while to sort out to give me a good ride.

I think a little buyer's remorse is to be expected.. The grass is always greener and all that stuff.

If you can't get your money back, just ride it and have fun

I have had the bike now for three days and have put some miles on it. Took it into the LBS today and had them adjust the derailer and brakes. Took it out again tonight...I have to say, I really like it. I think it will be even better when the wife gets hers. We both got 7.3s, hers is coming from the factory and will be here early next week. Then we can ride together.

If you like it, then just enjoy it! One bike is never enough, anyhow. In fact, the ideal number of bikes to have is n+1, where n is the number of bikes you have right now. I have three and it's pathetic. I definitely need four - and then I'll be a happy woman! :D

only 4? Is that just the road bikes? How about the MTB's- and the Beaters? and there just has to be a Tandem in there somewhere:innocent:

And barring the Mixte at the back that is too good to chuck but no-one wants- they all get used on a regular basis.
