I just purchased a used 2006 Trek 4300 (non dics). I am a newbie. I do not know much about bike.

The bike seems like it is just dirty. Rear gear shift perfectly. Front gear has issue going from second to first gear. I will have it tune up. Everything else is looking good. It has not been riden for 2 years shown as how dusty it is. Now, here is the question. Do I need to be overhauled? I heard later bike has sealed BB & hubs. Is this true with Trek 4300? Please help. your advise will be appreciated.

Thanks

If you're unsure about working on the bike yourself take it to a bike shop and let them tune it up for ya. You'll be ready to roll.

Sealed BB, Sealed head set, Loose bearing hubs.

Do the shop guys a favor, clean it up a little before you take it to the shop. It takes less time to tune on up when you are not wiping everything down before you start. And if youre paying by the hour it will save you some cash
