I am looking for a pair of cable cutters for household use. I don't want to spend the $60 or so that Felcos cost new, but I want something that will last. For around $22 I should be able to get a pair of used Felco C7s that are claimed to be in good condition or a pair of new Park CN10s. Which would be a better choice? I have a dremmel I can cut housing with, so I just need these to cut cables.

Thanks.

Hmmm...I can get a new pair of Felco C7s for $41. So, new or used?

Buy new. New will be sharp, have straight blades, and you won't have to worry about the previous owner having used them to cut spokes, or chicken wire, or their toenails, or....

Felcos are reputed to be the best cable cutters going. I've heard of troubles with Parks, but don't have experience with them. I use Pedros's cutters and like them a lot. If you can afford the new Felcos, get them. If not, get the new Parks and treat them right.

Thanks for the help. I ordered a new pair of Felco C7s from Felco Store (https://www.felcostore.com/). They were $41.24 with free shipping. Seems to be the best deal around for a new pair.

If anyone wants to give the used ones a shot just search for Felco on Ebay. There is a guy selling them for as low as $15 and $4 shipping. That could be a great deal depending on their condition.

Felcos are great for cable but awful for the housing.

Awful for housing? I agree they are just OK for the Brake cable housing because they tend to bend the end of the sprial wound inner and it needs to be fixed after cutting but they work awesome for derailleur cable housing. Any time I cut housing I use a sharpened spoke to open the inner lining back up.

I got the new Felcos and they work great so far. I haven't tried cutting housing, but I doubt I will ever use these to anyway.

I use my Dremel with a fiber-reinforced cutoff wheel. Makes a super clean cut through the housings AND the cables. Gives me one less tool to break/lose.
