Lake Cushman is on Olympic Peninsula just off US 101.

I could take I-90 to downtown Seattle and then a ferry across to Bremerton? From there it is a 50 mile ride down highways 3, 106 and 101. I googlemapped the ride but that didn't tell me everything. Has anyone done this ride? Is it safe? How's the shoulder situation and the pavement? Any major climbs on this route?

I could also ride down to Olympia and take 101 North but that is a looooong way.

I haven't done this as a ride but I've been through there on a motorcycle. I think the biggest obstacle you face is that highway 3 has a short identity crisis just outside of Bremerton where it decides it is an actual freeway. You would need to continue southwest past this point and join up with the road outside the city.

Also, have you mapped the route on bikemap.net or something similar? You can get an elevation profile for the route on a lot of the bike route mapping tools.
