Foo - An observation about controlling finances.

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Controlling my finances is almost exactly like losing weight and staying in shape. There are a billion ways to do it wrong, but the solution is dead simple. :)

Excel is an awesome mathematics package; if only it came with a decent spreadsheet editor...

actually I find they are exact opposites - you want to take in more dollars than you spend, and do the exact opposite with calories.

Sadly, I am on the wrong side of these ratios more often than not.

Yep. Like a lot of things, it's simple but not easy.

In that regard, yes, but I was alluding more to the commitment and meticulousness of doing so. At least in the beginning anyway, when spending $100-$1000 makes a dent.

It just helps me to see all the little expenses add up. Between lunch, bars, and movies, I'll rack up $500-1000 on my credit card that's easily avoidable. Then I'll eat PB&J, drink PBR, and watch streaming movies online for a month before returning to my old ways.

I don't drink outside the house, neither I drink much.

I don't dine out nor I buy lunch very often.

Even in this economy, I can swing a vacation to Hawaii.
