General Cycling Discussion - quality long lasting 26 inch slick tires

I have a motorized bicycle and it seems that people at most of the motorized bicycle forums dont know much about tires. i was wondering what you guys would say is the best for being a long lasting quality slick tire. I have gone through to many cheap nashbar slicks and they are scary to ride on after 1500 miles.

Weight is no issue to me, i need something tough, durable and long lasting.

How long are tires supposed to last?

Not sure about if they will last any longer on a motorised bicycle but I have been running a pair of Specialized Nimbus 26x1.5 on one of my bikes, so far 3000 miles and I reckon I'll get another 2000 miles out of them. I swap them around half way now and again.

I use slicks, but not on a motorized bike, which is your real problem. Adding a motor to a bicycle exponentially decreases the life of tires, chains, frames, etc.

That's not a pure slick. It has an inverted tread but it has thicker rubber than most bike tires. I'd think it would last longer than most and it also has a good reputation for puncture resistance.

Knobbies have more rubber on them, and should last longer than a slick. Rolling resistance wasn't on your list of priorities for these tires. I use 26" road tires, but none of the ones I'm aware of will make you happy.

Forgot to mention, i've yet to have a puncture with the Nimbus tyres (touch wood as they are a real pain to remove and reinstall on the rims - but you don't normally have to remove them very often).

Here's another vote for the Continental Town & Country. I've been buying these for the department patrol bikes for some years now. They last a long time, and they don't have any tiny little "sipes" to pick up pieces of glass and other crud.
The stresses from a motorized bike are, in most cases, not all that great...Unless you're running a friction-drive setup.

I've been very pleased with my Continental Sport Contact. But I've only put 500 miles on them. Even so, I ordered another set when they were on sale because I like them so much.

How much width do you have to work with. The Maxxis Hookworms are a heavy duty slickish tire but they are 2.5 wide and heavy.

The old ones did,not the current ones. These came stock on my Safari and I ditched them after my 5th flat(2fr,3r). Serfas makes a tire called the Drifter that has almost the exact same tread pattern,has puncture protection,and has optional reflective sidewalls. I used a set for a couple months and liked them.
