ooooo I remember the stuff in the 70's. Best thing in the world for a cracker. <shudder> and you NEVER EVER put just a little on the cracker - it was a mouthful of (excuse me) whiz and little crunch. BLARG!!!

Well according to Mom back then - that and the el fako non brand "american cheese" (ooo some brands wouldn't even MELT!!) were CHEESE.

Course at that time, none of us kids liked cheese at all. Stinky foot cheese - when someone actually unwrapped a REAL cheese. But now all of us have matured and we love our cheeses. but not from a can.

I was raised on the stuff. Cheez Whiz and pandesal was my after-school snack when I was in grade school. In HS, I discovered that mixing tuna with it made for a decent enough grilled cheese and tuna sandwich, which was a hit with my dormmates.

Cheese whiz is everywhere. Go out for some late nite nachos at the local taquieria and you'll find cheeze whiz from a 1 gallon can contributed to your nacho enjoyment. Ditto for all kinds of other foods I KNOW that you eat on a regular basis (because if you don't you ain't and never was an all american kid).

And, for your info, cheese whiz is not "fake cheese." Nor is American Cheese or Velveeta any sort of "fake." It's REAL cheddar with the excess whey reprocessed back into the cheese so it melts instead of separating. It also extends the shelf life even when unrefrigerated. Because, you know, when it was created they didn't have overnight refrigerated shipping coast to coast. It is just as nutritious as regular cheddar.

But then, some people just like to kick things they don't understand. As if cheese is that difficult to wrap your brain around in the first place. :rolleyes: If you REALLY want to kick something try the venerated "Cool Whip." At least THAT is actually fake.

I'm not suggesting Cheez Whiz is a healthy snack, or that you should start wolfing it down. But I don't for one second believe that it's any more unhealthy than other foods you haters regularly consume. :rolleyes:

Last night I had a thin layer of cheese spread on some saltine crackers. Was that any worse than eating a piece of pizza? I think not.
