I picked up a handelbar bag but its kind of a pain to get into with all the brake and gear cables in the way. Anyone know of one that maybe has some velcro that would hold the cables out of the way or something?

Why not pick up a piece of velcro at a sewing or craft shop? Bike shops also sell them.

before I buy the second bag I wondered if there was something better. Maybe one that fits the flat bars better of a hybrid or mountain bike

Be careful tying off brake and shifter cables. You can bind one or more and screw up the shifting, lock up a brake, or prevent a brake from working.

dunno what size you are looking for, but i saw a bag at my local meijers that strap to the top frame tube right next to the handle bars. looks like it could hold a can of pop, but no more. I thought bout getting it to hold my cell phone.

Flip it. Turn it around so it faces you as you rice. Easier access too.

This is a hybrid bike, the handlebars are flat, even with the top of the frame so it can;t turn around backwards. Anyone have one that maybe sits on top.

I have found Jandd packs to be very good quality. You could take a look at this one (http://www.rei.com/product/780457) from REI. It's inexpensive and sits on top of the bars. However, the zipper placement causes everything to fall out on the ground when you open it.

I have a similar one, $8, big enough for glucometer, camera and bag of raisins. I can snack or take photos as I roll along. To blood test I stop but dont have to get off the bike. These are made for triathletes, so they can take refreshment in the bike section - look in shops that sell tri gear.

FWIW, this is theoretically true but not usually a serious worry. Just bending a cable out of the way a bit and securing it with a zip tie or something shouldn't cause you any trouble. Avoid kinks or sharp bends, though.
