Hi i am having a problem which i assume to be associated with my gears/derailures (sp Sorry). I have a new bike, equipped with full ultegra components. The problem is when i pedal, when my right foot comes forward and down it clicks. Not only can i hear it but also feel it. Now if i pedal hard with only my left foot, there are no clicks. ??? Confusing. So it only happens when i thrust down with my right foot. Any clues to what it could be ?

Your derailleurs probably just need to be tuned. Try going to your local bike store and having them look at it. They should be able to look at it and get your derailleurs set right. In my experience, most bikes come without the derailleurs and gearing tuned properly.

First thing I would check is the right pedal/cleat.

Grease your seatpost. It fixes a lot of mysterious sounds on a bike.

What kind of wheels do you have? I was having similar experience and could not nail it down - it was driving me mad. Finally tightened up the skewers on my Mavic Elites and the noise was gone. Ahhh!

I had this same problem. I am super OCD when it comes to sounds on the bicycle. If it's not supposed to be there, then it drives me absoluetly nuts.

I had this exact same problem (on the left, however) and it turned out to be a bad pedal (which is much cheaper than a bad bottom bracket, for instance). I'll be my life it is the pedal and not the derailleurs.

Or it could be the spokes. For example, I get an intermittent click from my rear wheel (Mavic Open Pro CD). It's the nipples wiggling slightly in the eyelets. My mechanic tells me that this is pretty common for these wheels. I clean and lube the nipples periodically, which keeps the noise down. The alternative is to tighten up the spokes, but doing so might overtension the wheel.

I agree with those who said it was the pedal. Remove it, clean the threads, grease and re-install. Couldn't hurt and might help. Did so on my Shimano pedals.

I once had a similar problem that drove me crazy. Turned out to be the front shift cable hitting the crankarm. Doh!

Since you say that you can feel it as well as hear it, I'm going to cast my vote for something to do with your right pedal.

Retorque the pedals and the crankarms. Do both sides to be sure. Since you can feel it, it's most likely something with the crankarms. Best to get it taken care of quickly if either of the above since not doing so can cause damage to the crankarms.

If that doesn't take care of it, take the bike back the the LBS for warrantee work.

I once had a bad chain (missing one of the rollers!) that did what you described, but it would happen about every second or third turn of the cranks and was felt both left and right, depending on the timing.

Do you have a triple?

If so, I have heard of more than one person having trouble with the middle chain ring. Usually requires replacement.

Just a thought.
