General Cycling Discussion - looking for some good "street" tires

Since I now have an extra set of rims (26" mtn bike rims), Im looking for a set of "pavement" tires for riding on my bike trail. Its pretty much all pavement, which the exception of some hard pack dirt spots. I bought the Giant Boulder SE that came with the aggressive mtn bike tires, but the one I test rode had street tires (had oval knobbies). I kinda like those tires, felt pretty good and looks like it would give me enough traction on some dirt but without slowing me down like aggressive tires do. Not looking for brands, but I would rather see pics of treads instead so I can match it with whatever my LBS has. I'm not sure if I want "slick" tires (as on road/comfort bikes, etc) because of the dirt spots and possibly light rain conditions.

I've asked this before, but my needs changed since I now have 2 sets of quick change rims (gutted the old mtn bike for parts). I'll use the stock giant aggressive for any off roading/camp sites/etc and use the street tires for puttn around the trails.

Somewhat depends what you are looking for, fastest? puncture resistance? float over crushed rock road bed and sand? I use a 50mm Schwalbe Big Apple front and 55mm rear because of the road rebuilding on many of the side streets in town. My commute is short enough that speed is less of a consideration.

I've heard good things about Continental UltraGatorskins, Ritchey Tom Slicks, Schwalbe Durano & Marathon Plus (high puncture resistance). There is more to tires than just the tread. Most of the manufacturer web sites have closeups of the treads AND construction details, weights, etc. Schwalbe makes "Plus" models of several of their tires which are reportedly very puncture resistant but heavier, slower and a b*tch to mount per Peter White Cycle site (he carries them).

the reason why Im only interested in tread and not manufactureres, puncture resistant etc, is cause Im gonna buy from my LBS over buying online. they may or may not carry the same brands, but if I go in with a tread design in mind, I can see what they have and match it.

i'm using Schwalbe Racing Ralph, it's excellent for mix terrain between pavement & dirt

if you think those are too MTB like, then get the Schwalbe Marathon Extreme, instead of the Plus

the Extreme is more for city road, but still good on Dirt, although it's slower than Racing Raplh, but the Marathon Extreme has better protection for puncture resistance.
