Hey gang I ran into a couple riders from the east coast, traveling to the Pacific Ocean. They are planning on making ellensburg tonight. They mentioned Highway 12? To Mt. St Helens before reaching the Ocean.
I told them about bikeforums and the PNW and they said if theycan get online they would check it out. I thought it would be nice to have some tips and info ready for them if they do get on.
So folks! Road conditions, routes, rest stops, things that have to be seen?
Post up!

Highway 12 doesn't go directly to Mount Saint Helens, although there's Woods Creek Road which turns into a Forest Service road (NF 25) which could take them past the backside. If I am remembering correctly, the road isn't paved the entire way, however. If they go that way, they will wind up in Woodland, which is a bit far south. I think the travel depends on where they want to wind up, and how long they have.

Hwy 12 is not a bad road, although there are some narrow shoulders. From Ellensburg they'll want to head south on Canyon Road to Harrison Rd and then through Selah. I'm not sure the easiest way for them to get from Selah to Yakima. Maybe someone can help out.

There are a couple of paved trails - one that ends at 40th Avenue in Yakima. From there you can take Powerhouse Rd west - cross Hwy 12 and take Old Naches Highway into Naches where you can then get on Hwy 12.
