Bonnie Ford just reported on Velonews live chat that there are Cadel to TRS rumors. Maybe I started this rumor because I posted this two days ago on this forum. It was just a hunch based on Cadel's abrasive personality fitting with Lance's, and who else can compete with AC...

Well, certainly not Cadel. I don't care how strong the team is. Cadel won't beat Contador.

I wouldn't base your opinion of his riding capabilities on this Tour alone. Last year he almost won with the worst team in the Peloton and a horrible, horrible injury. With Johan, and a solid team supporting him...Lance, Levi, etc., he can beat AC.

Levi, Lance, Cadel, and Kloden can't beat Contador. Sure is it in the realm of possibility? Yeah, but unlikely. None of them can climb or TT with Contador at this stage of their careers. They can only make up so much time in a Team TT. Then they have to go up mountains and individual TT.
Cadel and Levi have never shown that he could hang with the top climbers when they attack. They're very good, but not in that special class. That's why they've been podium finishers but never the top dog.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha he he he he he he ha ha ha ha
That's funny right there.
I guess if they are allowed to tie off to each other. We can call them the over the hill bunch.

Why on earth will Evans join a team with an established GC leader? He needs to be leader of his own, despite his terrible lack of leadership qualities.
The man managed to piss off his whole team!
Seriously I hope this is a joke. Surely Lance isn't dumb enough to take on Cadel.

In any case, if it happens I think it will make things interesting next year. Evans still has to be considered one the top riders in the world. I assume Saxo Bank won't change very much so the Schlecks will be back. A lot of riders will opt for the ToC rather than the Giro which in theory will conserve them and make training for the Tour more manageable, so perhaps Levi and Sastre will be stronger. Nibali, Kriezinger, Valverde...who else has a chance, not sure. After this year's performance, I think it is entirely possible that AC wins several more Tours and challenges Lance's record. It is hard to say what will happen, but the possibility of Evans riding the Tour with support and Johan is intriguing to say the least.

Doubt it. Cadel wants to ride for himself, not Lance.

+1. In addition, look at Contador's performance before he rode for Bruyneel. Did you even know of him? Look at Levi's performance before riding for Bruyneel.
JB is not a miracle worker. Evans proved he was as strong as Lance in this tour, but look at the time gaps. Cadel is weak mentally always looking for someone to blame.
Levi did fine for himself in 05 with no team support.

If my team sucked as bad as his I would be pissed as well, and I think there is blame to go around at Silence. They lost his biggest helper and the biggest signee of the off season got busted for doping. The guy has no help and his career is slipping away from him...again, I would be frustrated too. But, maybe you all are sleeping with him because you sure seem to know him pretty well. :p Cadel lost to AC by 23 seconds in '07, again, with no help whatsoever. Really I don't care about Evans, whatever. However, being a dog lover I enjoyed ""Stand on my dog and I'll cut your head off". :)
I don't think anybody called Johan a miracle worker, but his accomplishments cannot be chalked up to rider ability. Nine tour wins as DS...Lance and AC weren't entirely unknowns when he found them, but pretty close.

AC was practically a teenager when Bruyneel found him.

levi will be 36 next year. here comes that age thing again! lance will be nearly 39 and kloden is getting up there but isn't a team leader....he's a follower. they need a GC guy. cordell is probably a good bet tho i don't think he will ever win the tour.

A teenager that nobody would hire because he was linked to OP. I think Bruyneel brought him on mid-season.

levi will be 36. the last time a 36-year old won the tour was what, 1919? kloden is a domestique. they need a GC guy and i don't think lance will want the job after this year.

Not so sure about. Last year was a pretty weak field. Look at the current top six in this year's tour. Four of them did not ride last year, and the two that did were riding in support of Sastre. Last year's podium was Sastre (17 minutes back), Evans (40 minutes back ) and Kohl (well, you know).
I don't have any problem with Evans like some people seem to, but I think he has sign the top end of his career come and go. Contador, the Schlecks, even Nibali are the next generation.

Yea, where else could he ever find a team where he would be the kid.
The lineup people are talking about for TRS looks to be more team over the hill. Now a good experienced rider can be worth his weight in gold, but that is one or at most 2. After that the benefits of experience pretty much stop increasing. But the disadvantages of older legs do not.

Let me explain. I know that. A previous poster said that JB can turn Cadel into a champion. I think this is laughable. I explained how Levi did fine when he was with Gero with no team support in 2005. The poster advise how Levi finished 3rd in 07 due to JB brilliance. I merely pointed out most of the riders who finished ahead of him in 2005 were not racing in 2007.
Thanks,

This is why I'm not so sure that won't try to mend things with Contador. JB is no dummy. To get rid of the best GC rider out there, who is going into his prime, because of personality clashes isn't smart. Especially considering what's available. Unless they can pull the Schlecks, the will have a pretty big downgrade.

Don't get me wrong. Levi is still one of the best, but to expect that, as years pass, he'll become more competitive with Alberto is unrealistic.

I have been reading. If you think you're stating something clearly, you might want to reassess.
I guess I will try again. I was replying to a previous poster who said Johan will make Cadel a contender. The previous poster said Levi and Contador sucked before they rode for JB. I mentioned Levi did fine in 2005 without Johan. He listed the results from 2005 showing Levi did better in 2007 compared to 2005 insinuating it was because of Johan. I pointed out the competition was greater in 2005 with riders like Lance, Basso The Jan, ect.
My point was Johan cannot turn Cadel into the TDF champion. That's all.
Now I need a nap.

I can understand that. From my perspective, I think Bruyneel would be more inclined to try and work it out with AC. But with Lance, I'm not so sure. And I don't know if AC would be open to mending things with Lance. This kinda reminds me of the Shaq/Kobe thing, with Phil Jackson trying to keep it together, a few years ago out here in L.A.
What keeps me thinking there is still a chance they work it out is, what are the alternatives? AC won't have trouble getting picked up if he's released from his contract. And he's gonna be riding against them really trying to prove a point.
I wonder how much say the new sponsor might have into the situation?

That is funny, except AC isn't the reason why Lance got a divorce :roflmao2:.
I think it all boils down to if Lance wants to be the main GC man? But even with AC gone, I still see the potential for internal conflict with Levi, and Kloden, since both have proven to ride better than Lance at times.

Beside the point, which is that he was still a freshman, just up from the JV squad, when Bruyneel took him on. Which is why he had no results.
Why are we talking about this in a thread about Cadel Evans? Maybe Lance sees a glimmer there, just as Jon Vaughters saw something in David Millar. Maybe Lance can't pass up a bargain, either.

Thanks Oldbobcat for getting us back on point. There is a history of guys finding the right team and excelling. CVdV comes to mind when he left CSC and joined JV at Garmin, now he's a player. And you are probably right, Evans would be a great deal considering how much Garmin or whoever would have to pay the Kazaks for AC.
I admit Cadel is a top ten rider, but I doubt Lance and Johan want their butts handed to them year after year by Contador. I would go after Nibali.
Richard
