I bought a TREK FX7.2 about 1 year ago. Have not ridden a bike in about 46 years. I started training for the HHH April 1st. So I am looking for help on how to get the first sixty miles completed in 5 hours. I am up to 40 miles every other day but it takes me 3 hours and 45 minutes. I have one month to improve my time. I cleaned my chain, air my tires to max, and use cycling shoes (purchased 2 weeks ago) which grip the new LOOK pedals.
I am 56, 100 pounds overweight, have 40% lung capacity of average man, and extreme asthmas.
Based on this combination, I have gone from 2.5 miles every other day in April to 10 miles in May to 20 in June and 30 in July, and now 40 miles every other day. I train in 100+ degrees now, so the heat wont be a problem. Just need about 2 MPH more out of my bike and or me. Even 1 MPH can help.
Any suggestions appreciated.
