Last year right knee cleaned/repaired. This summer surgery #3 on right shoulder. Needless to say without working all these past months and total lack of doing anyhting physical the weight hath arrived! 45lbs or so extra.
Well I have an old Trex Mt. Track 850xl. Been riding it alot (primary mode of transportation and recreation) LOVE IT. Since my average weight is 250-260lbs (still 30-40lbs overweight here) and I'm currently hovering at 290 (I'm 6' 6") Iam looking at road bikes. Found Trek 2.3 64CM... want but just out of $$$ reach at this point...
.
Once I get medically cleared my weight will go back to normal after a while.
.
Question is this... at my current stature do I need be concerned about extra stresses on equipment? Or buy TREK 2.3 anyhow and get to normal weight ASAP (target 205-215).
.
Also is there anything I need to be aware of as far as being a 'clydesdale' as far as frame/wheels etc etc...

.
.
thanks in advance

I feel your pain. I'm going in for back surgery soon. Been out of work since May. Havn't been able to ride a bike and sitting around the house not able to do anything really puts the weight on you.
Good luck!!

I think your biggest concern at your weight will be on your wheels. Alot of Clydes swear by Velocity Deep V's.

I agree that the real issue will be the wheels. The paired spoke wheels that come stock on that bike will not hold up to 250lb+ riders.

I have custom 36 spoke wheels on mine, and I run 28 mm tires. The primary reason I bought the Trek instead of the Specialized Allez Elite is the larger fork/brake clearances allow for the fatter tires.

The most important thing about the wheels is probably not the rims themselves but the spokes (how many and how well tensioned).

well there is good news...
once I get medically cleared I will be able to drop 40lbs pretty easy...
putting me at 250... with a long term goal of 210-220...
.
I like the Trek for a few reasons... lifetime warranty on an aluminum frame... 60-62-64CM class frames...
.
concerned about what could go wrong getting to 250lbs... willing to work with new wheels and tires... didn't know about the wider frame part!!! good to know!!! and the 2.3 is just S E X Y IMHO!!!
.
thanks for the input!!!
