It's true. REI will take anything back (even items you've had for years in almost any condition) for pretty much any reason. You'll either need a membership (they keep track of everything you buy so you don't need a receipt), or you'll need a receipt if you aren't a membership.

Shockingly I moved and actually found the receipt.. Dunno where or how but I returned the bar and got almost $90 back....
