Bicycle Mechanics - SRAM PG cassette...inner spacer required?

I'm installing a SRAM PG-1070 cassette and wasn't sure if an inner spacer is supposed to be installed on the freehub body before the cassette body is installed. The cassette didn't come with this spacer but when I watched the SRAM video showing a cassette install they show an inner spacer being used.

I went out and picked up a 1mm spacer but now when I install the cassette the smallest cog doesn't seem to lock into place in line with the other cogs because the cassette is pushed out just a little too far for the cog to seat itself securely on the splines of the hub.

So am I supposed to use the spacer before installing the cassette?

I just installed a SRAM PG1070 onto a Bontrager hub and I did not need to use the 1mm spacer.

However, the original Shimano cassette on the same hub required the 1mm spacer.

I contacted Bontrager and they confirmed the SRAM cassette did not require the 1mm spacer. As a test, I mounted the SRAM cassette with the 1mm spacer and as you experienced, the splines didn't engage on the 11T cog.

Sram cassettes do not need a spacer (OG and PG) Shimano 10 speed cassettes need a spacer unless it is a 10 speed only (deep spline) hub

I ran into this problem two nights ago on some new wheels and came to the same conclusion....
