It’s official! I am a Bike Racer! OK now I do not in any way think f myself as a fast biker….but I did it! I did not sleep much the night before. Ate Chinese (not a good idea for those of us needing to lose weight and not so good before a ride – note to self). So I got up before the alarm, got dressed, forgot my gloves (Borrowed some from my friend Betsy when I got there luckily) but anyway was pretty nervous. The ride was out and back 19 miles rolling hills- not too hilly though (thought others thought it was…)
Anyway There were 2 people in my category, Athena’s, and Debra (the other Athena) rides a ton…and did awesome (22.45 mph). My start time was 8:38:00 and I go up to the start and some handsome fella hold me and my bike in place, who knew?? That was so I could clip in and zoom off.
I realized as I was warming up – my computer was not working – so no cadence or speed or distance, but I had heart rate and time – so I could see if I had gone 30 minutes it was going to be time to turn around soon.
I rode off…after 2 minutes, Debra caught me (she started 30 seconds after me) whoosh! Then it was a while before I was passed again. I have a friend who races and is sponsored and I kept thinking she would pass me (Turns out she was having a horrible day…her back was killing her) then finally some other women passed me. They would yell nice things as they sped by...words of encouragement.
Had to go up a hill, then turn around and was on my way back. The ride back was pretty cool. You knew you had 10miles. You knew it was not gonna kill you…and some of the very time trial type guys would zoom by. I saw familiar ground from my warm up and knew I was close. Plus I figured 60 minutes…so I knew the clock was ticking and I must be close, then I saw a K sign (1 K to go) and vroom whoosh took off. I went passed the finish, a little unsure if it was the finish. Went back to wait for my friend and heard my speed….18.95MPH. YAHOO!!! I mean I remember when I thought 12 Mph was incredible. So I like the time trial. I think working out on the plain ole Stationary Bike is a help. I also think I could have worked harder today. So maybe next time.
Ok I am off to my Bike Club’s Bar B Que….None of them were at the Time Trial so I have a good story to tell.
