I would like to buy a new bike. I want a hard tail with disc brakes and good suspension/shocks. I am fairly new to mountain biking and want to take advantage of our local ski hill. I need something that's durable, and good for a beginner. I want to buy locally and our dealer sells Norco's and Giant's. My price range has a maximun of $600 Canadian. If it matters I am 5'10 and 140 pounds.

Anyone have a bike suggestion for me?

I am looking towards an 08 or 09 norco scrambler. Would that hold up?

On a ski hill/down hill ride that bike would most likley self destruct or kill you. That bike is great for path riding and some light mountain biking with no drop off or jumps or really rockey terrain. For downhill riding you should look into a full suspension bike or a really high end hardtail .

Yeah...thats not gonna hold up too well if you're downhilling. You need to be looking for a freeride hardtail of some sort. A burly frame with a good long travel fork and a good wheelset.
