Raymond Poulider was 40 and on the podium.
I'm not absolutely certain, but I don't think anyone has made the podium after taking more than two years off of racing.

That's what makes Lance placing 3rd more awesome than Contador getting 1st.
Lance showed courage.
Contador showed.....well....that he could climb fast.

I'm really not a fan of Contador, at all, but I will give it to him that he can climb re-he-eeeely fast.
and..

Is the only way you can build Armstrong up is to tear other people down? You are a really sad person.
Maybe Armstrong and Contador both had great performances and one doesn't diminish the other.
Besides you're not even factually correct: Contador climbed really fast and won the two ITTs.

Fabian won the other ITT, not Contador.

Sadly third is the second loser.
And the idea that Contador didn't show courage is bull. I'm so glad you blind Lance faboys will now be disappearing for another year. Adios!

Well, if AC can podium at 37 years of age, he will get props from me. I too think Armstrong getting 3rd is an amazing accomplishment. Everyone expected AC to win, and few put LA on the podium, and in fact many were calling for less than a top 10 finish or even a finish.
And you must be a loser too, cause you never wore a yellow jersey.

I think riding the distance that they do in 3 weeks shows courage tbh haha.

Incorrect, AC did not win the first ITT

lance was great in the ITT but then again he wanted yellow first so he could be annointed team leader.

Jean Alavoine was 34 placing 2nd in 1922
Gino Bartali was 35 in 1949
Ferdi Kubler was 35 in 1954
Federico Bahamontes 35 in 1963
Joop Zoetemelk 35 in 1982
Raymond Poulidor "the eternal second" has to top both i think
second place three times, and in third place five times
oldest 2nd 38 in 1974
oldest 3rd 40 in 1976
But now Armstrong is tied with the most podium finishes ever in the TDF with 8.

Not quoting myself but editing myself rather. As has been pointed out Contador did not win both ITTs. He was second to Cancellara in stage 1.
mea culpa

whoosh. again.

You have heard of WW I and WW II haven't you. Quite a few riders were 2 or more years out of cycling, including the top 2 Italian cyclists ever. Both of whom won the TDF after WW II. One of them spent close to if not more than 2 years in a POW camp in North Africa.
