Recreational & Family - And she Rides- (Happy day)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

She rode today-http://i254.photobucket.com/albums/hh95/dt_sands/_DSC0025.jpg?t=1248571389
So after a year of this new Specilized Hot Rock bike being at the ready- she rode.
Sarah- (While I am racking two bikes for tomorrows ride with my oldest girl) Dad, I'm ready.
Me- What? Hold on, I am busy
Sarah- Daddy- I am ready to ride my bike!
Me- (Dropping EVERYTHING) SURE, really, are you sure, really are you serious?
Sarah- Yeah, can you just take the pedals off, i want to coast down the driveway a few times.
Me- (moving faster than if the house was on fire) Sure, lets do it.
Fast forward 5 minutes, adusting a seat, pumping up the tires and seeing her bomb down the driveway NOT touching...
Fast Forward 15 minutes later,
Sarah- Can you let mom know I am doing this
Me- (YELLING into the house) GET OUT HERE
2 minutes later, pedals back on- SHE RODE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great Day! I never, ever thought she would care to ride. Just came upon her today... We celebrated with Ice Cream!

Those trainer wheels dont look like they had much wear. I hope you make her wear a helmet when she walks up the stairs. There are a lot more head injuries due to people falling on the stairs than bicycling. Fantastic - no potholes in the road!

She is riding every day! Life is great!
Financial doom lies in wait for you,my friend:
Dad, I've just seen a:
really cool mountain/road/cyclo-cross/bmx bike that I really, really, really need....
Luna Chix top that's wicked/cool/baad/whatever outdated piece of slang I 'm using inappropriately...
advert for this cycling summer camp (in Hawaii) that my best friend is going to and I'll just die if she goes and I don't...
etc.
You have our profound sympathies.
Good luck and I hope she turns out to be a real enthusiast for the rest of her life (teenage hormonal interruption excluded)

\Funny you say that. I had $hit bikes growing up- real CRAP! I swore to my parents at 9 years old when all I needed in life was a Haro or would have settled for a red Line BMX style bike (400 bucks back then) tht IF I EVER had kids, they would ALWAYS have the BEST BIKES!!!!!!!!!!! Period-
Ya know, I'll do it too!
Shed those training wheels!
Congratulations! Have fun, girl!

I agree. I had two huffy's growing up, one royce union, and a mongoose (the first generation walmart sold, decent bike actually). I now have a custom built, by me, mtb with full shimano LX and a Access xcl frame. Way better bike than I ever dreamed of as a kid.
2 years ago when I met my girlfriend, I bought her a Trek 7100 WSD. She said all she needed was a bike from target or walmart, I told her that if I was gonna pay for it, she was getting something GOOD. We had just started dating...
Back on topic...Congrats on the daughter giving up her training wheels! And better yet, good job getting her a good quality bike, she will have much more enjoyment out of that than a department store bike!!!

In multiple locations.
PS, Passage, much congratulations.
PPS - I'm of the same mind, spend your money where your values are.
When she's much older and an avid rider these will be some very special photos to look back on and say, "This is where it all started." Very nice!

Congratulations! I've been trying with my 7 year old for years. She is scared to death. We're still trying. Hopefully, we'll have the same good fortune as you and your daughter soon. Cute pics!
