I want to build a new wheelset or get a pre-made set.
Choices:
King hubs/revolution spokes/Open pro rims
Mavic Ksyrium ssc
Mavic Ksyrium Elite.

hmmm.

I like the look and attributes of either Ksyrium, but I do so love King hubs. I also enjoy building custom wheelsets. I'm running Open pros currently(tried and true), and like them. Needless to say I haven't had the opportunity to try any Ksyriums. Would I be missing stiffness if I go with the King/Openpro?
The wheels would most likely go on a C-dale R1000/2000 or a Trek 5000/5200. Haven't decided.
Help a guy out.

I have three things to say to you: Free-hub-body. Shimano and Campy are fine. Kings are good. I don't know about Mavic. Lots of fancy wheels have serious problems with freehub bodies.

And I would not run a shimano freehub offroad, yet they are ok on.
King are simply the best. Instant engagement, lotsa noise, rebuildable.
Campy-Experience I have none, except for rebuilding them. 1 word-dependable.
Mavic are great as well.Easily rebuildable. yes.

Its not so much the freehub. I would not shoot myself in the foot over that!
Of the opinions I've asked for, all have responded with Ksyriums or nothing.
I'm not that experienced on the road(1st yr), and I really don't want to look like a nob strutting Ksyriums around. I am tech though, and thats what attracts me to King.
Any more?

Have a set of Chris King hubs/Revolution spokes/Velocity Aerohead rims. 32H front, 36H rear on a Zona TANDEM! Over 4,000 miles so far; no problems. Worth the $$$!

Don't forget Phil Wood hubs. They are virtually indestructible. Only downside is weight. However, they will last forever.

I love the smoothness of Mavic hubs!

Velomax makes an excellent hub and you won't have to worry about building the wheels. My brother purchased a set last year and they are sweet.

I ride American Classic CR-420's and these are just as smooth as the Velomax. When I put it on the rack inside the house the front wheel will roll back and forth with the weight of the wheel magnet for a minute or so. Amazing how great the bearings are in these hubs. The free hub is great, too.

Visit www.spinlitecycling.com and check out the hubs and wheels that you can purchase or have them custom build to your specs.
