Hi, I have two road bikes and decided to change the cassette on the older one not because it was shot just because I wanted to. Been interested in Sram since I tried out their road chain and like it. Ater changing the cassette I just went out and tried it and couldn't believe the difference! Had no idea my bike could shift that smooth, was almost like belt drive compared to the Ultegra I took off. Tried it on the new carbon bike and same thing! So it's staying on the new bike and Im going to order another from Nashbar right now. They had them on sale for $39.95 this Tuesday, hope they are still that cheap! Just had to tell you guys what I found out that some of you may already know. Starting to doubt Shamino!

Funny, my experience has been exactly the opposite. I've had the pleasure of working on some lower end Trek comfort bikes. We actually got Trek (at their suggestion) to pay us for Shimano cassettes to get them to shift decently. Maybe the higher end stuff is different.

I just changed my cassette to a 12-26 and it seems to be fine. Looks like the same grade as the Ultegra or 105 stuff. Anyway it shifts just as well and saved a few bucks.

I have used SRAM cassettes on my bikes the Ultegra cassette is decent but the SRAM is lighter and seems to shift better IMO.

Not sure what you bought but everywhere Ive looked the Sram road cassette is more money than Ultegra. Almost twice as much!

Sram makes (very good) shifting components for MTB's, but they also make chains and casettes for road bikes
Are you mixing Shimano chains with the Sram cassettes?
I bought a new wheelset two weeks ago and also bought the Sram 12-23 cassette with a new Ultegra chain. I find that the two are working fine together but not great. When I put a new chain/cassette on I expect better than fine, i want that sweet hum of a new drive train. I am wondering if I would have been better off with either a shimano cassette/chain or a Sram cassette/chain rather than mixing up the two.

No, have Sram road chain and road cassette; both new. I ordered the 12-26 because I have hills and just use a double 53/39 chain rings.

I have an 8 speed SRAM 12-23 on my Spinergy Xaero-X rear. It is respaced to work with my Campy Mirage components. It shifts like a dream with a PC-68 chain.
