Anyone ever shipped a bike(ups, fed ex, whatever) to hawaii? I am wondering about the approximate cost to ship from oklahoma to hawaii(kauai, to be precise) thanks in advance.

A few extra inches difference in size can triple the cost. Weight matters too, but not nearly as much. It also matters whether you want door-to-door delivery, or whether you will take it and/or pick it up from a distribution center. For all these reasons, any estimated cost could be wildly off.
If you already have a box, measure it carefully. Then weight your bike + box. Then go the the FedEx and UPS and USPS web sites to determine a cost and how long it will take. You'll save a lot of money if you remove both wheels, but then you'll have to pack it more carefully.

what matters a great deal is if its shipped assembled or semi-assembled. Most bikes are shipped semi-assembled. At my LBS new bikes are shipped in with the front tire, seatpost/saddle, handlebars, and pedals removed and put skillfully inside the box. Ive seen bikes on ebay go for $20 but have a shipping charge of $90 cause ppl dont know how to package them properly. Any LBS can package a bike for you for a fee (usually around the same rate for assembling a bike from the box) and if they stock new bikes theyll have the right size box, and packing material on hand. But with a few allen wrenches you can probably do it yourself.
