How did I miss movies like this when they came out? Both the Bride and I liked it even a few tears.
Even a bit prescient, see quote below.

Will: Why shouldn't I work for the N.S.A.? That's a tough one, but I'll give it a shot. Say I'm working at N.S.A. Somebody puts a code on my desk, something nobody else can break. So I take a shot at it and maybe I break it. And I'm real happy with myself, 'cause I did my job well. But maybe that code was the location of some rebel army in North Africa or the Middle East. Once they have that location, they bomb the village where the rebels were hiding and fifteen hundred people I never had a problem with get killed. Now the politicians are sayin', "Send in the marines to secure the area" 'cause they don't give a ****. It won't be their kid over there, gettin' shot. Just like it wasn't them when their number was called, 'cause they were pullin' a tour in the National Guard. It'll be some guy from Southie takin' shrapnel in the ass. And he comes home to find that the plant he used to work at got exported to the country he just got back from. And the guy who put the shrapnel in his ass got his old job, 'cause he'll work for fifteen cents a day and no bathroom breaks. Meanwhile my buddy from Southie realizes the only reason he was over there was so we could install a government that would sell us oil at a good price. And of course the oil companies used the skirmish to scare up oil prices so they could turn a quick buck. A cute little ancillary benefit for them but it ain't helping my buddy at two-fifty a gallon. And naturally they're takin' their sweet time bringin' the oil back, and maybe even took the liberty of hiring an alcoholic skipper who likes to drink martinis and play slalom with the icebergs, and it ain't too long 'til he hits one, spills the oil and kills all the sea life in the North Atlantic. So my buddy's out of work and he can't afford to drive, so he's got to walk to the job interviews, which sucks 'cause the shrapnel in his ass is givin' him chronic hemorrhoids. And meanwhile he's starvin' 'cause every time he tries to get a bite to eat the only blue plate special they're servin' is North Atlantic scrod with Quaker State. So what do I think? I'm holdin' out for somethin' better. Why not just shoot my buddy, take his job and give it to his sworn enemy, hike up gas prices, bomb a village, club a baby seal, hit the hash pipe and join the National Guard? I could be elected president

I have a love/hate relationship with that movie. I hated Robin WIlliams as this touchy-feely creep, and yet at the same time, I liked RW as this touchy -feely creep. I don't know, maybe I was too surprised to see him play a serious role.

I prefer Williams in this kind of role. I have been a fan of his since "Reality, What a Concept" I first heard it in seventh grade, memorized it, had the Mork Suspenders and shirt and was also a Jonathan Winters fan. When he can riff as he wants he is funny, but when they try and stick him in a strict "comedy role", it is pretty awful. His best movies, in my opinion, have been, Dead Poets Society, Good Will Hunting, Awakenings. All serious roles. His best comedies were Hook, The Bird Cage(My favorite) and Mrs. DoubtFire. It could also be his growth as an actor.

Trivia Quiz: What movie did Robin Williams star in and play a loser salesman trying to make a killing in the commodities market?

What Movie did RW make a brief appearance in as a Mime?

Personal favorite RW movie: What Dreams May Come

I was going to cheat using IMDb but he has done SIXTY movies. So the only one I get is Shakes the Clown. That featured Bob Goldthwait, whom I also like. If I had, had the balls I would have a tried to be a (real)comic rather than just working local improv and open mikes :(

In Shakes the Clown he plays a mime and in one of his earliest movies, Seize the Day, I think it's only an hour long, he plays a desperate loser. Shakes the Clown was a good movie. :) Seize the Day is pretty black, but worth watching.

Of all the movies he's done, the ones with a sense of surrealism and fantasy stand out for me and those are Toys and What Dreams May Come. I'll never forget the scene in Toys with Barbie in bondage. :roflmao: Or the line, "Come on...we've all done it!" I really liked Joan Cusack in that movie too.

Toys is a seriously underated film imo. It's one of my favourites. Two of my other favourite films also feature Robin Williams - The Fisher King and The Adventures of Baron Munchhausen (I'm a bit of a Terry Gilliam fan)

And yes, Good Will Hunting is a Very Good Movie. Shame on you Rev for waiting so long to see it.

A very underrated Williams film in my opinion was DEATH TO SMOOCHY. He has some great moments in that and the movie itself was waaaaaay better than it's lack of popularity suggested. Ed Norton was also great in a quienestially American role, the eternal optimist, like a Thoreau figure.

I felt the same way when I first saw it. But I saw it about 2 years after it came out.

I think it's a beautiful movie.

Too bad they mocked the crap out of it in Jay & Silent Bob Strikes Back, totally ruined the film for me, I won't watch it anymore.

Those guys are idiots, especially Ben Affleck (no wonder his career is in the crapper).

Good Will Hunting... bleah. But at the time, I liked Robin Williams.

Hated Mork and Mindy, with that Nanu-nanu crap, but I did love "The World According to Garp", and I was just thinking about getting the video for it a couple of days ago. That was one of his better roles, in my opinion!

I loved Mork & Mindy, my first crush, when I was 4 years old, was with Pam Dawber (Mindy). I still tend to be attracted to women who resemble her.

I LOVED "Death To Smoochy". It was classic Robin Williams. He just couldn't spit out enough purple rhino insults in that one.

I saw RW on Inside the actors studio, they gave him 2 hours instead of the normal one hour. The man is insane, a genius and the fastest wit I've seen, but plum nuts.

I've bad mouthed him here in the past, but I must agree with you. But, he just tries to hard. 99% of his jokes fall flat on my ears, but that 1% busts my gut.
