Only 28 more days until LSC Philly. How is everyone doing? Are you ready?

Fundraising has been a little slow for me. I guess it's the same all over, people are feeling the effects of the economy.

ready or not, I'm doing it. I haven't ridden much longer than 50 miles (doing the century), but I feel pretty good after that distance. I was doing pretty well with fundraising and had a little over $700 until today, when somehow I ended up with a total of $825 in additional donations. I'm still amazed

I'll be there. coming up with a friend who grew up there, but now lives in SC. We've been doing a fair amount of training to get ready, but still probably not where we need to be...We did an easy rolling 75 mile ride yesterday to get ready..... Looking forward to the visit.

Same here. I did just under 60 miles today at a pretty fast pace (having a guy who commutes 20 miles each way to work taking long pulls = :speedy:) with only a couple short stops. But, it's looking like the longest distance I'll be able to do before the ride is ~75 miles next weekend.

I'm ready to go riding wise.

Fund raising has been slow this year, and I too blame the economy. I need to send out another mass email this week and get a few more dollars. That's what it's all about. The bike portion is the fun part for accomplishing the goal to raise money for fighting cancer :thumb:

It will no doubt be harder for us this year because we've ridden less. But having done the 45 mile last year, having a good idea of what we're capable, we're ready.

Riding the century. I've been working up and did a 60 mile ride last weekend.

I was having my best biking season ever..of my 2.5 yrs riding. Had signed up for the 100 mile ride then had a non cycling related accident on July 18. Ended up fracturing my fibula just above the ankle so I'm in a cast. Still have 3 wks to go and the Dr. said he doubted I'd be able to make the Aug. 23 date. So, last wk I reluctantly canceled my hotel res. I thought is was a bad sprain as I could still walk on it but with much pain. When the Dr. said the x-ray showed a fracture, I could have cried because I knew that meant cast.

The worst part is I felt I let down those that had donated to my fundraising. They understood and said it was a still a good cause. Now I guess I can begin training for next yrs......still bumming though. Have a great ride everyone.

Sorry to hear that. I broke my wrist 2 weeks before my first LSC and ended up walking the 5K in a cast instead. Heal up and we'll see you out there next year.

I plan on it grahny. I also thought about trying something else or at least volunteering, but with the travel and 6 wks of lost income, except for disability pay, I thought I better just withdraw and plan for next yr. Be sure and give me a full report of the ride when it's done.

This is my fourth. I am very excited. I think my legs are ready. I weigh 20 lbs less than last year. Maybe I won't have to walk up that big hill this year!

roadrider63 - I'm sorry to hear about the injury and change of plans. I hope you have a complete recovery, as quickly as can be expected. I'm not sure where you live, but would switching to the event in Austin in October be an option?

My reality also didn't match up to my plans. I had a great winter and spring, in regard to training. I had 1,000 miles in by early May, and I had also been doing weight training and yoga. I had lost 10 pounds and been feeling pretty good until I started developing some hip pains. To make a long story short, I'm in physical therapy now and I've had to cut back my training. I will most likely end up doing the 45 mile ride instead of the 100 miles that I had planned.

In regard to the fund raising, it's been a mixed bag. I started early, but didn't want to pester people too often. I have also been "distracted" by dealing with a chronically leaking window, a slacker land lord, a resulting mold problem, and needing to find a new place to live - kind of time consuming, to say the least! I raised some money by auctioning off a Postal jersey and a LiveStrong Challenge bag on eBay. I'm at about $800, far short of my goal of $3,000. All things considered, if I beat last year's amount of $1,115, I'll be happy. Still, I'm looking forward to the event! :thumb:

I'll be out there again this year on the 70 mile course, but this time with a fellow alumnus from my high school.
Training hasn't been good this year with most of the summer being rainy. I'll just be a bit slower this year.

We'll be in green and white semi-custom Voler jerseys with our school seal and a large green falcon on the front.

Hard to believe it's just over a week away which also means the closing of summer...

I was reading some stuff on the LAF site and they were talking about the course and how you could encounter fast moving traffic and busy streets? I just assumed the course would be closed to traffic? Are they talking about crossing streets that are not part of the course?

Last year I did the 100 and didn't have to stop at one intersection. The roads were closed in the morning but they can't keep them closed forever. So as you get later in the day there are cops at every intersection and they stop the cars and allow you the right of way. I guess they are just telling you to be careful but I don’t think you have to worry.

The roads are only closed right out of the start, but that's it - the whole course is not closed off to traffic, there just isn't a lot of traffic in that area in the early morning. All the intersections are controlled so you can ride through.

You should be fine to roll out with the 100 mi riders. They have lanes set up for each distance, so just hop on in the 100 mi lane to roll out first. It's always nice to meet a few new BF'ers at the beginning, with the understanding that everyone is going to roll out at their own pace.

Give me a holler if you see me out there....I'll be doing a 15 mph avg for the most part.... Not sure about some of the climbs though....:)

We're leaving SC around 7:00am tomorrow morning.

Fundraising has been slow but atleast got the $250 I needed to raise to race.. doing the race with my brother-in-law who does a few triathlons but the biking is his worst part so it was fun whooping his butt in the last event and looking forward to doing it again.. :D

Looking forward to it. Was nice to raise some funds for something that has an impact on so many of us. I lost a mother-in-law to cancer late last year and my own mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer last month. My mother is doing well and will be there, thankfully. I will be there wearing a Assos kit with white jersey and riding a black Trek. Anyone interested in pushing sub 5 hours on the 100 mile?

Seriously? That's pretty impressive.

I'll be starting with Team Fat Cyclist in the front group, but if you're riding at a 5hr pace, I'm sure you'll pass me pretty quickly.

My main concern is that I won't pace myself well enough in the first half and will end up blowing up on the second half.

Tasr, you're a madman my friend :) I think I'm up for a 5-5:30 time this year, but we'll see (I've done 5:55 the past two years without pushing it other than on the climbs). I'm going into it for the first time not thinking about a specific time, but rather why I'm doing it again and trying to keep that focus on sunday instead. I lost sight of that the past couple of years.

Hey grahny,

This was my stats last year;

Some of my Garmin figures were;
5:09 ride time
97.13 miles
18.9 average speed
7037 total ascent

I am a bit fitter this year. Just did IronMan Lake Placid and it was great. I finished 210th OA and 20th AG. My bike split was 5:36.

I have been following the back and forth here
will be in first 100 mile corral
most likely with white discovery channel jersey
blue trek madone (discovery channel logo)
if anyone wants to meet up
last year did ride in low 16mph
trying to improve on that
maybe only hitting 3 rest stops (one right after, 70 mile turn off, top of landis store, one labeled number 8

I'll be there, on a Litespeed Classic with a yellow saddle and handlebar tape. I signed up for the 100 mile route, but I'll probably do the 70 or maybe even 45 mile route instead. I'm still in physical therapy for my hip, and the therapist thought I was a bit nuts for doing the 63 mile ride in Lancaster last weekend! If you see me, feel free to say "Hi" or "Hop on my wheel and I'll tow you to the finish." ;)

It's been pouring/t-storms all night here, and for tomorrow it looks like mid-70's, very low wind (1-4mph NW), and 50% chance of rain. Not too shabby... sure beats 95° like we've had all week.

Well, that was fun, again :D

Sorry I missed everyone at the start. I got there late and ended up in the middle of the 100mi lane with not much room to move up further without annoying a lot of people.

I had a great ride, finished in 5hr 30min on the nose and if my gimp wrist didn't hurt so bad I could have done more.

I have the best luck with celebrity riding... last year, a few miles with Lance, this year, I end up riding with Chris Carmichael and the Fat Cyclist himself for probably 30mi or so, including up oysterdale road :thumb: It was pretty cool... very nice guys to ride with.

I pulled a train with them sitting on my wheel for that rolling stretch between the first big climb and the landis store climb and earned the nickname "night train" (pulling the train forever at a fairly fast pace if I do say so myself, and I wear black)... I had a blast. Excellent day to be a cyclist!

Also saw Jeremy Powers (Jelly Belly) who came in right around the time I did.

That wasn't him... He was the one wearing the new livestrong oakley jawbones with the yellow band on the bottom of the lens... he was on white/black trek he rented (and he's pretty lean and mean these days). All the fat cyclist riders I ran into were cool (including my friend Dan of course :D). I didn't realize they were doing that, I would have joined up with the team.
