I did my first tri this weekend in San Marcos Texas called the river ranch tri. It's part 3 of the Alamo series triathlon series. The event was 400m, 22.5k and 5k. I only did this tri bc my swim is terrible and I could stand in the lake if I got tired, which I did. I was last out of the water bc of my wading and "swimming" but I made it up in the bike. I passed like 10-15 ppl in the bike which I was very happy about. Also, I saw my wife ride on the bike and she was very happy to see me bc " [I] didn't die or quit after the swim". During the run, I walked/ran the 5k with group of other first timers. So the happy endin is that I finished my first tri and my wife got 2nd in age group. The sad ending is that, on the way home her bike fell off the bike rack on to the highway. It's mostly cosmetic damage but we have to replace her big ring bc some of the teeth are bent and her saddle has to be replaced. A total of a $300 "user error" mistake. Thank god her race wheels weren't damaged.

That's sad. Why did it fall off the rack?

I think it fell off bc I didn't tighten the straps down.

Nice job on finishing your first triathlon!

In the future, I would recommend you take some swimming lessons and become more proficient in the water. This will not only help your swim times, it will help you to be safer in the water.

The cost of triathlons is so high partially due to liability concerns stemming from the swim leg of the race, and everything we as athletes can do to minimize our risk in the water is time and money well spent in the big picture.

Feel blessed enough to do such things while millions other young and middle aged people can hardly walk to the toilet and back to bed..
