Touring - Seeking Touring Companion: Lhasa Tibet to Kathmandu, Nepal

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

We are a group of four cyclists who are currently on tour in SE Asia and we've decided to hire a tour company to guide us on what promises to be an incredible bicycle tour through Tibet. We've got to hire a tour company because of the regulations surrounding extensive travel in Tibet that require us to have a licensed guide, permits, etc. The tour company we've decided to go with has drawn up a bare bones package for us but we still have to have a hired guide, and a support vehicle. While the more stubborn of our group plan to carry all (or most) of our own gear along the way we will have enough space in our vehicle to carry gear for at least a few more cyclists who would then be able to ride unburdened! We've negotiated a great flat rate price of $3850USD for a group of 4-10 people, so naturally the more riders, the better the price gets...at 4 people in a group this will run us $970pp so with a fith that would come down to $770, etc. etc. Once there, travel expenses will be pretty low as we'll be camping at least 75% of the time and food costs should stay fairly low as we will be cooking for ourselves when we're camping. The most expensive part is obviously airfare. To give you an idea: a one way flight into Lhasa from LAX runs about $900 while a flight from Kathmandu to LAX runs about $850 (from a quick search through expedia). The cycling is 25 days and will start in Lhasa, Tibet in early September (between the 4th and 7th) and end in Khatmandu, Nepal in early October(around the 4th). There's a ton more information from the tour company that we'd be happy to forward on to anyone interested so please don't hesitate to send us an email. The group of people already going are great and all really laid back, 3 of us have been cycling together for a few weeks now and we're averaging a stunning 20km/h when we're riding the relatively flat roads of Vietnam so there's no worry about someone less experienced having trouble keeping up, really... we're more about being slow and steady.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!
