With an indominable spirit that's only matched by natural hunger i'd
like to take command of the number five meal like few have ever
done before! A large coke is but a hint of what's instore for this
hunger ravaged gentleman who's tasted the penultimate, but
it wasn't enough, the memories persisted and when the timing
was right, he returned, but this time he's not just ordering a
meal, he's fulfilling a dream, a dream and a promise to his stomach.
A stomach that's not unlike one we might see walking
down the street, except for one big difference, this is Al Trautwigs'
stomach and it knows something that maybe other stomachs don't,
that it's not enough just to eat, it's got to consume!! Only a few
times in history has a stomach been so challenged by the effects of
metabolism and time, and not just any time, but a time that says,
'it's 2:30pm--and i'm hungary' 'that bagel was hours ago'
Luckily, or should i say, just as expected--that veiled request
got an answer, and the answer was a resounding "Yes".
A 'yes' that isn't often heard so much anymore, a 'yes' that...

"Sir, just drive up."

growing up among football fans i'd often hear complaints about how they'd
'hate' a certain announcer--it never made any sense to me and seemed
kind of petty.. Well i don't hete Al as a person--don't even know him, but
now i understand what they were talking about, when a person is really
into something the personalities of those that present it takes on a whole
new influence....for better or worse. So, in no particular order we have
Phil Paul Bob and Frankenstein:)
It's terrific though, this is the best time for cycling, i'm soooo excited about
this one, who knows how it will go??? Personally i think the deciding factor
is going to be stem angle. So in my most reserved but excited tone let me
say, Za Tooah! Za Tooah! Za Tooah!!!!!!!!!!:)

I kind of like hearing a made-for-broadcast voice. As much as I like Bob Roll, Paul Sherwen and Phil Liggett, they don't have that resonating timbre to their voices that a true, professional announcer like Trautwig has.

Even money Bob clocks him before stage 9.

i can see it now, behind the broadcast trailer:

Al-- 'come on. i can take all three of you wussies right now!'

Bob, Phil, Paul -- (all slowly walking tword him side by side with a syncronized sway)

:)

i think Al is there because this may be the 6th and the executive decision
was to have someone who could present it to people who might not have
as much of a working knowledge of the whole thing--i guess.. For example,
rather than say, 'it's never been done'--Duh! He says, 'it's never been done--
*ever in a hundred years*' See? Quality. Uhhh gawd...
Personally, i wish they'd send him and Kirsten--only because they look cute
together, out on some snipe hunt for "tire clencher glue" :)

"....where you have to race alone, and Armstrong's gone! (Paul Sherwen, 2001 Alpe d'Huez)" Sounded perfect to me.

That Al Trautwig, howwww much does he weigh? I heard the reason he never goes to the beach is because the Greenpeace people keep trying to put the whale back in the water?

Sports commentators who don't know what it is like to have renew the extraordinary commitment to match the pace of the other guy (or beat him) with every pedal stroke or step are never going to be able to talk about it. Trautwig doesn't have any meat, and he tries to make up for it with more bun. What that boy needs is to do a nice long endurance event (six hours or so) where if he loses the draft it's game over, with his continued employment dependent on making the ever-more-difficult time cutoff. Do that about a hundred times and he might have a clue. It sounds a little like this: "You wanna know about pain? I can tell you about pain....."

Could an AOL member please send this to the "Ask Bob" segment? I would love to see if Al has the balls to read this out loud :D

Early in the Tour, I swear I heard him say that drafting is illegal I think he was talking about a TT and, if I remember the rules correctly, it is...

Ah, you're probably right. I was doing something else at the time and was only halfway paying attention. When I heard him say that, my mind quickly red flagged it, but he didn't elaborate. Sorry Al.
