View Full Version : My Diet, Is it Strange?

I've been eating the same breakfast and lunch for nearly 6 years. Always a cucumber for breakfast and chicken breast for lunch (maybe a little rice). A freshly made cheeseburger for dinner ( No Mc D's style junk). Hey it works for George Foreman!:D...I'll eat a banana between lunch and dinner. Maybe a small salad late at night if I can eat. Rice vinegar instead of dressing, avoiding fat.

If I continue to eat the samething day after day, it's not a problem at all. It seems as if I am training my body to eat certain things. In the morning, I will crave the cucumber. At lunch, my body craves the chicken. Some people say it's not much but I sure feel more satisfied than if I ate a big ol fat junky burrito from a local fast food joint. Or 3 Big Macs filled with empty calories! If I eat junk, I never feel full or satisfied. My strange diet keeps me happy once the body is trained.

I love ice cream but once I'm on a roll, eating ice cream will make me sick to my stomach. So my weekend reward for eating wel all weeks seems to be less of a treat.

I find it strange that some people say it's wierd to see me eat the samething all the time. What's so strange? I see people stuff their faces with Quarter Pounders and deep fried burritos off the roachcoach day after day. Seems to me, we are all eating the samething day after day!:p

Weekly diet and a big plate of pasta before a ride keeps me energized enough for the rides I do! Down 22 lbs and riding hard, I must be doing something right!

Really got me the other day. Eating a banana at break. Some chainsmoking dude smoking a cigarette tells me that too many bananas aint good for me!

Breakfast- cucumber with red chili powder and garlic salt, YUMMMM!

Lunch- chicken breast, somtimes with rice. Todya was special, marinated which I don't usually do. Why wa today special? I dunno, maybe cause I marinated the chicken!:roflmao2:

If it suits you, then fine.
I prefer variety; rarely ever do any fast food.

so you have the chicken and the burger everyday? That's too much meat for me, plus it doesn't seem like you eat anything green except for that cucumber and occasional salad. Sometimes I'll just boil a head of boroccoli or cut up a bell pepper to munch on, they're the only veggies I really like.

I want to try that cucumber though, it makes me think of corn on the cob with chili power

I hope you take a multivitamin....

Mr. Beanz

Yup, multi vitamin and a chewable vita C, cause I like 'em!:D

In the salad I may have some fresh broccoli (sp?) , maybe some other vege But other than that, I have a hard time with veges.:(...But I do throw in bpeepr with the chicken at times!:D

I've heard it said that people who tend to be the most successful dieting and maintaining their goal weights after a period of weight loss often tend to eat the same foods/meals. Maybe it's just a matter of the simplicity preventing someone from miscalculating their caloric intake and overeating, but I do think there is a risk of malnutrition if you get too strict about it.

Me, I get sick of *anything* if I eat it daily. Except sugary sweets....hmmmm... :innocent:

Well, your diet is certainly different...yeah, okay, it's strange. Particularly the cucumber for breakfast. Why cucumber? Was there a specific reason for that? Or do you just like it? But why for breakfast??? Do you have bread and lettuce and tomato and stuff on your cheeseburger or just the meat and cheese? Just curious...

I guess cause I work at night, throws my habits of a bit. I wake up and can't eat right away, so by the time I am hungry, it's just about lunchtime!:D....AND most of all, I just like it!:p

Even on a ride day, if I wake up early, I'm not hungry. I will pretty much have to force myself to eat for a tough ride.

Yup, cheesburger! Nice fresh lettuce, big fat tomatoes and big buns of course!:thumb:

I did really well, my best back in 03-04. I didn't touch butter or mayo for over a year. I rode over 7000 miles, lots of climbing and fastesst climb times and never dipped below 220. I'd kid with my ride partners (150'ish) that "when I get smaller.....", they'de laugh and say, "You'll never be small".:D

OKay, you got me!:D...Part of the diet is convenience. I buy a pack of chicken breast, and a bag of cucumbers. Creature of habit!:D

Yeah, it's a strange diet. But then again, look at the person eating it!

If it works Mr. Beanz, then keep going. But of course it depends on your goals. It looks like you want to lose fat, and 22 pounds is something anyone can be proud of :thumb:. Are you following a specific diet plan or a modified existing one (i.e. Zone, Atkins, Paleolithic, etc.)?

Do I think it a strange diet? Yes and No. Some of those food choices do not look appetizing to me at all or not fulfilling. Thus, yes it is a little strange. However, I am pretty regimented myself about what I eat. My breakfast is combination protien and carbohydrate shake I mix myself. Lunch is usually 1 or 2 chicken breasts with long grain rice, brocolli, and black beans. Whatever I don't finish I have for dinner. I also eat at least 6 hardboiled eggs a day and usually an apple as snacking type foods. Sometimes before bed I have a PB&J sandwich and sometimes another protien only shake. I also occasionaly to rarely snack on sweets or chips. However I am also trying to put on weight (lean and otherwise). Suppliment wise beside the various Protien and Carbo powders I take a Multi and Fish Oil.

I think it all comes down to goals Mr. Beanz, and maybe it's not the diet that's strange, it's the person ;). (Joking, of course)

Mr Danw
07-27-09, 08:21 PM
I have eaten one PBJ for lunch near every day for years. I find it to be a good jobsite pick-me-up.

But if they have fried burritos on the roach coach out your way Beanz, I'm on my way!

Mr. Beanz
07-27-09, 08:22 PM
Exile, I am nto really trying to lose fat, but know that when I eat these things, I don't gain fat. I nver "DIET", just try to eat stuf I like without havign to worry aobut "what I eat" all the time. SImple stuf and I like it! Goes down easy!:thumb:

No specific diet. Just eating somewhat low fat.

I do think in the back of my head about the storing theories. Like starving the body, then it overstoring the fat when it comes in (etc rollercoaster diets downfalls). I think eat light on the weekdays then pasta carbs on the weekend before tough rides. Somewhat in the style of carbloading eventhough some don't believe in it. Just makes sense to me, and I feel good on tough rides!:thumb:

Yeah, that'd be me. :) Long time, no see! How have you and the little woman been? I got a new Calfee Tandem for RAAM this year and someone suggested I stop in over here on the tandem forum. I've been avoiding it for years. :) Not because it's a bad place, I just spend too much time on this stupid confuser already. Anyway, I saw the Clydesdale forum and thought my fat butt might fit in but pretty good.

That's cool Mr. Beanz that you don't follow any specific "diet" plan. Besides there being so much conflicting information about "what to eat" or "what not to eat" it can make someone throw up thier arms in frustration.

I guess it's pretty strange being in the Clyde section wanting to gain weight like myself (230 and climbing :D). Though I am down from 235 240 .

Well, If you enjoy eating what you like then i'm not going to stop you. Though it seems both me and Mr. Danw have a craving for some of those burritos ;).

Purple Calfee, matching purple carbon handlebars and stems. Beautiful! I'm jealous, I'd have to sell our home, cars and all our bikes to get one!:p

I like hanging here caue it's about bikes. Other place was not much about bikes anymore.:(

I like the SoCal forum and have a ton of pics over there in the SART thread (Santa Ana River trail).

Hehehe! Some people like it with lemon. I just prefer vinegar (rice vinegar, available in most Asian sections at your grocery store today!:p)

Others love the same style with melon and other fruits. I though it was starange at first till I tried it. Like the other guy said, reminds me of the corn on the cob sold locally. White corn on a stick. A layer of mayo spread, rolled in parmesan cheese, sprinkled with lemon and red chili powder. I was totally gorssed out when I first saw it. But one taste and BAM!:D

You'd love my new tandem! It's a naked custom made Calfee with Zipp 404 wheels and all the go fast goodies. :) It's 28lbs with all in go fast mode, with the Zipps, aerobars and disk brake. It's around 25lbs in climbing mode with the Topolino wheels and std DA brakes. Lots O-fun!!!! We did RAAM on the tandem in 6 days 10hrs on the tandems. We had a some problems that cost us a lot of time. Next year we're going to break into 5days!

Yes, us fat guys can climb! Do we need pictures? :) We can even climb on tandems. I can't tell you how many rides I've done with names that have words like Death, Heck, Hell, Terrible, Devil, and challenge in them. ;)

Breakfast and lunch are extremely consistent with me. Dinner is whatever wifey makes, but it is nearly always something healthy, except Sunday nights which she always does something big like a pot roast along with garlic mashed potatoes and other trimmings. I have to be careful with portions on Sundays or I end up paying for it on the scale.

Ok Beanz. What on earth possessed you to try a combo like cucumber, vinegar, chili pepper, and garlic salt? Go on, spill the...er...beanz.

That was freaking awesome :thumb:. Next time I go to the grocery store I'll have to get some brown rice vinegar, but if anyone is interested it was really good with regular white vinegar. Also I regret to inform you that my excess cucumbers have been spoken for. :D

Mr. Beanz
07-28-09, 07:28 PM
Actually it's that lots of Hispanic peeps around her sprinkle red chili powder on fruit. I don't even speak Spanish but the dishes look good. SO the kids tried fruit and lemon with red powder. I din't for years then some lady gave me a taste at work. Not bad. I tried it at home with the kids but didn't find the lemon tasty enough for my liking. Lemon was dull ,IMO. Some dude had told me abou substituting salad dressing with rice vinegar. SO I tried the rice vinegar on the cucumber and liked it much more than lemon.

The ride vinegar is alot like apple cider vinegar but not quiet as strong and with a little sweeter taste.

Try the RICE VINEGAR from the Asian section at the supermarket. I find it much tastier than the white or brown apple cider vinegar. Not as strong, but tastier.:D

It wasn't even thought of when I was younger (60's-70's-80's) but now that there are so many people from Mexico ( 3 hrs away) it has really changed around here. People set up stands on the corners during the weekends. They sell fresh fruit bowls (diced variety of fruits) and sprinkle them with lemon and red chili powder.

BTW, the garlic salt I use is Lawry's. Coarse ground with Parsley. The stuff is GOOOOOOD!..in a white with green trim container.:thumb:
