Commuting - Air quality is gonna suck tomorrow

This is really bad for us, my mild asthma is gonna partay. Leaving the bike at home is not an option, too stubborn, plus most of the buses do not have A/C. Gack.

Just tomorrow? It's bad for the entire week! I stopped biking since last week. Too hot and muggy. Then again, I am a sissy. :innocent: Drink lots of water and lathe your body with sun block!!!!

I read a study from Hong Kong a few years back that said on a polluted day, air quality on a crowded bus with A/C is worse than on one with no A/C and the windows open. Plus, Hong Kong's air is much, much worse than Vancouver's.

Even on the worst pollution days here (worse still than Hong Kong), I prefer to ride. I just make sure I take it really slowly.

6 on a scale of 1 to 10+? Pft. Doesn't look like such a big deal.

Drink lots of water. Eat lots of high-antioxidant fruit (Berries mostly, blueberries, tomatoes, strawberries (yes, tomatoes are berries, go watch alton brown already :P ) )

But that's Hong Kong. Everybody where's a mask there when we visited years ago. Nice fun city. But no way would i want to live there. Too congested and small. The apts. are so dense and each unit has a/c (window unit type) that the resulting effect of these cluster of apts creates its own temperate climate above!

I have asthma as well. Just make sure to use your inhaler as needed. Are you on any controller meds or antihistamines? I take Singulair and Claritin every day, and on really muggy days I use my inhaler before my ride, and possibly after if I feel wheezy.

I don't have an inhaler, no more money for RX, it's just mild asthma.

Umm... people don't wear masks because of the pollution. It's done to prevent infecting other people, and it only really started during SARS back in 2003.

Also, I would suggest what's true about Hong Kong buses is even more true about Vancouver buses. Even though it's more polluted in Hong Kong, it's still better to be on a bus with open windows.

Poor air quality and 100+ degrees today. Combine that with only 3 hours of sleep, and I decided to take the car.

Sure. People say the same thing about the outskirts of Mexico City too. Nothing wrong to like living in HK. I know a friend who likes to live there too. But different strokes for different folks right. I love the energy there. Then again I was visiting so mindset is different if I were to seriously live there. Too claustrophobic for me.
How is biking around Kowloon and HK island? I suppose like any asian city, it's about how brave one is? The cab drivers there are how should I say.... committed. ;)
