Mountain Biking - Where did I go wrong?

I have raised a bike snob! I really can't understand how this happened. It seems like just a little while ago he was tooling around on a 24" Haro just happy to be out riding but now..........it's all changed.He has been giving me a hard time about buying a "Hardrock" but now that he's ridden it he thinks it's a great little bike. Small frame,6" fork= fun trail bike. Here's where we have a problem. I told him he should build one up and he said...."I'm not building a Hardrock,I had one of those when I was 12"!I'm sure all this is his mothers fault.
Is there some sort treatment program or is he doomed to be a snob from now on?

Ha, this is funny. Hardrocks ARE pieces o' ****e IMO. I just sold mine, finally. Im going the cyclocross route this time around since my MTBing is more of the adventure style. The CX probably weighs about 1/2 the HR

The CX bike is going to be used as a mountain bike, this is the MTN forum is it not? Maybe you should have just kept your fingers still there buddy.

Since it is a "public" forum...'never' can act like whom he chooses. You are welcome to "tell him" not to do so, but your words may have fallen on deaf ears.

For the record...I care if 66 raised a bike snob. His content on this thread is certainly more interesting than yours, YB. You will notice that most of the more interesting threads in the mountain bike forums have very little important information about mountain bikes. So when taking the extra time to type about someone needing to keep their "fingers still...buddy", think good and long about taking your own advice.

YB, why do you keep coming here, since you obviously don't like mountain bikes or mountain biking? Did they drub you out of the road forum or something?

i mountain bike fairly regularly. My point wasnt to discount the thread and say noone cares, I was pointing out that "caring" is really a relative term on an internet forum. I was a bit out of line, but I am just adding my .02 and not appreciating the dou-chebaggery. This forum is attractive to me because of a more genial aspect among posters. What I enjoy about mountain biking is climbing and seeing sights unreachable by any other means. The hardrock seems to be a bast*rd child of a downhill and an XC bike in my book, and really doesn't do much well. The RST fork might as well be rigid, the discs are shameful and Acera can only shift well new from the box. I know some prefer varying levels of suspension, but I dont like any. My CX will be used as a rigid 29er basically, Id call it a mountain bike therefore. Im sorry if I put you guys off, and frankly dminor my e-respect for you is far greater than any of the roadies. I didnt mean to cause trouble here, and I apologise.

Isn't one bike snob in a family better than two hacks?

Discussing 66 and his punk-ass kid is extremely important and you downplaying it is likely to get you banned - or at least tarred and feathered - so watch yourself! But then again, the revelation that your CX bike will be half the weight of a Hardrock is earth shattering and extremely important in its own right! Maybe that should have got its own post?

We shall see. Im taking it on a semi extended trip with my uncle over massanutten (sp?) mountain in northern VA when I head back up to school. Even if it isnt as good for singletrack as the hardrock, the fire road style riding will make up for it in my book.

Is fire road riding what you consider mountain biking???? It's funny,the people I meet around here that mountain bike use mountain bikes. That's just crazy insane.

Its basically a money issue, I can have one bike for a variety of tasks and CX bike provides the best bang for the buck for my tastes.
