Singlespeed & Fixed Gear - KHS Flite 100 v Bianchi Pista

What does anyone know about the KHS Flite 100 v the Bianchi Pista. My brother was looking at one today but the guy at our LBS said that the Pista had better quality components for the same price. Is this true? Any thoughts?

do the new Pistas run the ISIS-based cranks/BB? If so, that is reason enough to keep me from buying one.

I haven't heard too many complaints about ISIS systems in general, but have heard many about the PISTA specific ISIS. What this boils down to is that the ISIS BB on the PISTA is pretty much crap, and has a tendency to crap out and start creaking. The BB on my 2003 pista has creaked for awhile now, even though it still rolls smooth. Really when you are spending around 500 for a bike, the quality of components isn't going to be top shelf.

The BB on my Langster is an El Cheapo, square taper and it squeeks like a rat in heat.

heh. i spent less than $500 on mine and set it up with all Suntour Superbe Pro. off the rack is boring...

agreed. 2.5 yrs of eBay and patience landed me some pretty nice goodies for my DeBernardi

The cups backed out of mine runing down hill, locked the rear tire. Srewed the frame threads. I'm on my 2nb bb in 4100 miles. Love the Pista.

I guess I meant off the rack, sorry I should have clarified. I too don't spend much for my bike, of course that is with the exception of the prohibitivley expensive wheel set I bought.. Most bikes get about 300 dollars of my $ depending on the wheels.

the khs is heavier than the bianchi. as noted above, the khs is made overseas and so is the 2004 bianchi. the 2004 bianchi is way to flashy, it'll get stolen in a minute. fixies are theoritically made for urban street manuevering, learning to dodge potholes and tagging cabs. not to mention finding a perfect cadence to build strength.

i would prefer a nice home-made steel fixie myself. you can part a gunnar/soma/surly out for a few more bucks, check it:

you will need various parts (pedals, seat wrap...etc) but you should already have that...

I think she means one that you build up yourself, rather than a handmade or U.S. made frame.

Im thinking about buying a KHS flight 100. The sizing it comes in wasn't thought out imo. 50,53,57 and 60cm.

good lord, man. are you suggesting the OP wait two and a half years scouring ebay to avoid a squeaky part? it's only a bike.

I haven't looked at the components real close but I rode a KHS and it
has nice decent Reynolds tubing--stiff fame, nice lugged fork and a low-profile
look. The Pista is a good bike don't get me wrong but it is too flashy for my tastes--
go for the KHS. The KHS does have some overlap between the pedal and the wheel at the
55 or 56 size I rode--can't say if the Pista does.

I didn't notice the date and I visited a KHS Flite 100 site to make a comparison with my Pista.

The KHS and Pista have remarkably similar geometry; especially the 28mm fork rake.

Both of them represent a good way to get a cost-effective, functional frame one can ride while he/she collects better components.

Can't speak as to the KHS, but I love my 2005 Pista. Best thing I have ever purchased, hands down. Wouldn't trade it for anything in the world, although, admittidely, I have swapped out a good chunk of the components. No problem with the BB
