Hi all and thanks for helping me out -
I am looking at a 1999 Bianchi "Campione Del Mundo" bike for sale that the seller claims has 200 original miles on it. I cant get the photo's to post here because his ad was removed but the bike looks mint, its deep blue and has a sticker on it thas says made in Italy. Seller has not been forthcoming with info like componants etc, but I get the idea that its not his bike and he is just selling it to free up his garage space - he does seem legit.
He wants 670$ for the bike that he claims was bought new in 1999 for 1600$
I cant find much info on this bike online, i would appreciate any help
thanks
Bruin

Nothing on the top tube as far as model?
I've got these on a 1998 Trofeo...but without pics, can't help you.
Did you try bikepedia? According to bikepedia, that bike had a list price of $1199. Most/many buyers get a discount off list when they buy new.
Given bike is 10 years old, price is on the high side. Most bikes are ridden very little, so that does not mean much (and there is no way to verify it).
I am not up on the various Campy levels, so I will let someone guide you on value. In general, a ten year old bike should be 40% or less of the original price, so somewhere around $500. But maybe an Italian bike with Campy components would hold its value better??

The bike has Ultegra components according to its owner

Tahnks, I cant recover the pics but i will ask to see if seller will send them, made in italy sticker on this bike completely different - its a silver and black strip that says made in italy - just like the made in china ones

If you look at, be sure to check all components: headset, crank, derailleurs, hubs, skewers, seat post, etc. to see the branding and model (to make sure it is not a Frankenbike). I bought a Miyata Frankenbike (at the right price, and I knew it), where just about every single component was a different brand or model.
If the bike is all Ultegra (not just a splash of it), then that is not bad news, it just does not fit the story so far.
I have found sellers to often get the year of the bike wrong. But this model for several years was all Campy. Does he have the model wrong?? That would be very unusual. Or is something wrong with the deal (more usual)?
The Bianchi Alloro was all Ultegra and cost around $1600 new in 1999. So maybe its just an honest mistake. The Alloro would be a better deal.

Modern bike are still depreciating. 40% or less of MSRP is a good starting point.

Thanks,
I have asked him to confirm the model of the bike and he is not responding to my emails. The bike is that dark electric blue color and I do not think that the Campioni came in this color.
