He's got to beat Alberto Contador first. He'll be popular in English speaking contries. But if AC reals off 5 TdF's plus other grand tour victories, he'll be the man. AS could possibly be the next Jan Ullrich. Not that a handfull of second places isn't bad. But he could be remembered as the guy who was ALMOST good enough. Think of Phil Mickelson in golf. He's popular, but is no way the face of golf as long as Tiger is around. And if AC ends up with a team like Garmin, his popularity will rise in the US. So I think Andy has a ways to go.

Anyone who wins the TdF is a face of cycling to the general public. Doesn't matter what language they speak.

It's hard not to cheer for a guy like Andy. I like the attacking duo of the Andy and his brother. It's unique in cycling. Andy really needs to work hard on improving his time trialing. I think he can win and he is the best young rider out there.

big if. andy schleck in my mind is another claudio chiapucci or richard virenque, and there ain't no shame in that. maybe the best climber can get away with a so-so TT....a la marco pantani. but schleck is not the best climber so he'd better get busy with that TT.

contador was the complete package. best climber. best TT.

and i don't buy that frank is holding him back. that's just a steaming load of media crap.

FWIW, Mrs. Caloso thinks Frank is cuter. Maybe they just need to find one more brother and they could be the Jonas Bros. of cycling.
