Mountain Biking - Can anymore teach me how to...

properly pack and ship a bike? I dont really know where to start, that would be awesome if someone can give me the instructions, even better if there is a video tutorial. Usually what size of boxes do you use? Where can I buy one? Do I need extra protection, like bubble wrap or sth? Thanks a lot
PS mine is a Trek mountain hardtail

Ask your local Walmart if they have a box.

use lots of bubble wrap and newspaper to keep things from moving around and shifting...

Go to your LBS and ask if they have a frame box you can have.

Remove your wheels and pedals, wrap them, put aside.

Remove handlebars. Wrap.

Put saddle the whole way down.

I'd take the Rear Derailleur off and zip tie it to the top tube or something to keep it secure.

Cover the frame in bubble wrap

Place frame in box.

Place wheels, bars, and pedals in box alongside frame

Pack newspaper between frame and other parts, and fill up empty space with paper so nothing can shift around.

Put fragile on the box, and hope the shipping company doesn't screw anything up. lol.

The example in the pics is a BMX bike, but the principals are the same. I just found this and it's not a bad little 'nutshell' how-to:

Biggest consideration: obviously you want to have it tracked, but insure the hell out of the thing. More/better/heavier padding is better than too little. I'd rather pay a bit more to ship my bike than to cheap out and have it arrive mangled. If it's mangled because you packed it poorly, the prior mentioned insurance won't do jack for you.
