One of the Bouygues Telecom riders on the 2009 TDF is named Said Haddou.
Born in France, has a brother named Nahir Haddou (also pro cyclist).

Does he represent an element of diversity in the peloton? Both names look like they have a relationship to Arabic. Are the brothers related to someone from one of the former French colonies like Morocco or Algeria?

Not much information when I did a web search, but there may be more in French than in English.

thanks!

French-Algerian.

Zinedine Zidane, the great French footballer, was also French-Algerian.

Now THERE was a nasty little war for independence. I believe this was ground zero for muslim suicide bombing.

If you're interested in this, you might also be interested in the Grewal brothers, Indian Americans (as in India), American Sikhs I believe, who rode fairly successfully (Alexi got an Olympic gold) in the 80's. Also, check out Major Taylor.
