General Cycling Discussion - Down to ride two centuries on the same morning -- what should I do?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Alright, so here is the situation, there was an anomoly on the Bicycle Gold Coast ride calendar that they issued a few weeks ago, which has only just (i.e. the last ten minutes) come to my attention. On August 15 I'm down to lead a ride, the Tweed Valley Circuit, 180km or so, and close to 1,600 metres of climbing, some of which will be on dirt roads, so I'll be riding it on a MTB. Also on August 15, I'm due to lead another ride, through Numinbah valley and back to the coast, around 170km all told, with about 1400 metres of climbing or so.

What I want to know is, do I attempt to ride two centuries in one day (now that would be a challenge!), or should I do something else?

I clicked the wrong option. Now, I can't recast my vote. What am I to do! Woe is me.

Well if they were on a road bike, I'd say you have no problem riding both. On a mountain bike on dirt roads, I'd say you're a God if you can ride both. Now, some BF member had a quote on his signature along the lines of "...when you try something that is above your ability and succeed, that is success..." Whatever? Anyway, I used that thought when I signed up for Pedal to the Peaks. I am 25 pounds heavier than I was last year. I sagged the first day on the second climb. The first climb was 7-8% for 10 miles, the second climb was at 8,500 feet to 10,000 feet and was a 10-12% climb for 9 miles. I couldn't breathe and had to bail out. The other days, I stuck to it. So....although this is thread is meant as a joke, I think you should try it. So there.

Oh yeah, I should also point out that they're both scheduled to start only 30 minutes apart. Now that would be a challenge!

As a mod I have the option to edit the results (although that would kinda defeat the purpose of posting the poll in the first place). Of course, you would need to fess up as to the option you chose. Now, was it you who said I should quit cycling in shame?

Who says you can't start one a little early and the other one a little late???? Sounds like a wimp out.

Yeah, I'd like to see that skinny weed try and make me! He got himself into this mess, he can get himself out of it.
